good news ted, that shop closed about a week after poundland opened - no surprise.
a greengrocers will do well in that spot after the gap that paynes left, not so sure about the floristry side, there is another established one nearly dead opposite.

I wish them well, I also notice that there is a new Army Surplus shop in the old Victoria Wine premises in Worthington Street.

not new barry, they were in the indoor market and when they were ousted to make way for poundland they took over the worthington street shop almost immediately.

good to see you back in town barry, is it just pure coincidence that your return coincides with her majesty's visit to nearby margate?

Those people who open a shop just for Christmas, should not be allowed to do so; it is totally unfair to normal traders who pay business rates and rent throughout the year.
They usually sell cheap rubbish goods, if any are electrical, there's no guarantee they are safe - who would want their children playing with an unsafe toy ?
They also (usually) play very loud music which upsets many passers by and you can bet that they haven't paid anything to the Performing Rights Society, so would be playing illegally.
A lot of the temporary staff are probably on benefit, so could be prosecuted; there's many reasons why these temp. shops should not be allowed to open just for the lead-up to Christmas.
Support our local shops, but not these temporary ones - if that's what it is.

couldn't agree more roger, it is so unfair on the traders that struggle throughout the year then when they can cream off a bit for themselves these rogues come along.
having said that maybe it will be a permanent trader.

I have always thought of them as market traders who dislike standing in the cold.

I hope it will be a permanent shop Howard.

I cannot see any problem with anyone occupying an empty shop over a period of time.....This has always happened, and it gives people a chance to try....
It is rather extreme to consider any temporary trader/market trader a rogue and vagabond....
Everyone has to start somewhere......and sometimes a short stay situation can give people an idea as to whether they want a shop etc....
Just because something is cheap , does not say it is rubbish.....
Mr Walkden you are looking for a perfect world..........and it is not here......

you may be missing the point here mr norman, we are talking about fly persons not potential traders testing the waters.

Strange that these budding entrepreneurs as Charlie likes to think of them only test the water at Christmas time for about a month.

Exactly my point Jan - and Howard.
Charlie, I haven't nothing against entrepreneurs, the Country and the Town needs them, but not pre-Christmas "fly-persons" as Howard so genteely puts it.
