Anyone have any opinions on the latest architectural doodlings vis-a-vis the DTIZ (peace be upon it), on the front of this week's Asda, sorry, Dover Express?
In principle, from the small bit we can see and from what is implied, it looks great: rebuilding of the historic town wall, low-level development, revival of the old 'lanes' street pattern, past-meets-present/future, that sort of thing.
Any chance that we humble serfs could see a bit more of what could be in store?
Look forward to your feedback, Dovorian cats...

Hi Andy, haven't seen the plans.
Do the latest ones have pigs flying over Dover?

a bit optmistic of you expecting a reaction andy.
most people here have seen too many plans and artists impressios, a start date on anything would gain much more of a response.

What little one can see in the exclusive picture given to the Express it seems ok as it is at least on a human scale
My concern is that on what we were shown and told there is nothing to draw the passers by on Townwall Street into the development or Dover itself

Love the idea of 'lanes' and from what we can see they appear to have created almost the right character to it but why, oh why must we wall off the town? No matter how many times it is mentioned and used in presentations (the wave pattern on the seafront was described in a presentation as a step towards) bringing the town and seafront together, still we get a wall.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

I haven't seen the article, but it would be great to think any development at all might happen in my lifetime.

All I hope is the olympic torch route completely bypasses that area and all the other tatty parts that have been left to slowly rot and turn into weed heaven.
Well done with the petition Bern, I keep meaning to post on your thread, sorry.

There is one notable objection to DTIZ development, namely Burlington House, which seems to have been built in such a way that it cannot be taken down.
That object has the final say over DTIZ development, and from Burlington House the answer is a definite thumbs-down.
There's just about nothing any mortal person can do about it, short of closing the port down for a month or two until the object is thundered to the ground and cleared away.
But that could have financial repercussions on the Port users, so for now I'd suggest that for the next 10-20 years all plans about lanes remain an artist's impression.

Absolute nonsense Alexander - you sound like you don't want anything to happen.
Burlington House, the multi-storey car-park and the Country Hotel are the stumbling blocks but they are subject to legal proceedings and will work in parallel.
It will come down as soon as those legal proceedings are sorted out and phase one is completed.
August/September will see the planning application in and with the planning officers and developers working together, it should be passed by the end of the year and work start early next year on phase 1 on the corner of Woolcomber/Townwall Streets, where the hotel etc. will be.

Thanks Roger
Alexander - anything that is put up can be brought down - the nature of the construction of Burlington House is such that it cannot be demolished by explosion and will need to be brought down floor by floor but brought down it surely can and will be

Well if it's possible to take down Burlington House without closing (or endangering) the traffic on Townwall Street, then there is no problem apart from the expenses involved.
I do have doubts as to how this is possible, considering the time-scale and technical requirements for demolishing B. House, but it's not that I don't want to see it go, though.
In fact I was surprised when it went up in the first place, considering it to be a waste of space when observing them building the thing from the windows of Saint Mary school.
Let's hope no more concrete blocks go up in Dover.
On this topic, do we know what kind of architecture will be used in DTIZ?

this week we have learned about the hospital fiasco so optimism has to be kept in check.
