it is the dover public who are bashing their head up against a brick wall.
everyone knows what these meetings are about, nothing positive results from them.
the streets will still be dirty, the river clogged up, cyclists chasing us around the streets and bad dog owners wil carry on as before.
good photo opportunity for the people with titles but little else.

Howard understand where you are coming from, but for me as a councillor will keep on trying to change things for the best.

i am sure that you and all other councillors are doing their best, the problem is that council officers, police persons go on courses on how to fend off the public, it is the way of things.
i have been to such meetings in other areas far from here where exactly the same platitudes and cliches are dished out to a bored public.
the intention is that because of the diminishing number of people attending, the events will be halted and public apathy blamed.

If they want more response from the public hold these events on a Saturday during the day with boards outside then you will get the people wandering in.
I wonder how many of joe public even knew this event was on, I will ask our regulars tomorrow if I get the chance..

have to disagree there, plenty of billboards advertised the event, press releases were sent out, our own forum fuhrer started a thread with it then posted a reminder the day before.

If you had put a leaflet in all the doors they still would not turn out.

I sent notice of it out to over 600 people. I think Vic (and others) is probably right, but there is also far too much cynicism to make it work, however it is presented or promoted.

when you say cynicism do you mean realism?
your comments in the past on here suggest that the latter is correct.

I mean that people have been promised much, but received little, so have become cynical Howard.
Even with the Police and the "no cycling" notices and the "no cars" between 10.00am and 4.00pm in and around the Market Square and up Cannon Street and Biggin Street, the Police don't stop either - even when they see them.
Cyclists now ride anywhere - even as John has said, through the station and along the platform and no one stops them.
Oh Ye of little faith, have trust, as they are working on delivering what has been promised - so I am told.

Just a thought - Peter, did you not receive notice through one of my emails, or are they automatically deleted ?
If no one is reading them, there's no point in me sending them, they take me a long time to to create and send.

roger,as i see it there are 3 reasons that no one bothers,
1,apathy.
2,lip service.
3,broken promices.
so in conclusion if the esteememd coucil and other officers cant be botherd why should the great public of dover bother.

A couple of interesting things on the health front were revealed on the night. In the local region we have seen a re-surgence of two diseases of notorious legend..TB and Rickets.
How will I put this tactfully...TB was irradicated amongst our idigenous population...but now we have seen a return of this nasty disease, a considerable growth in numbers, but not amongst our indigenious population!
Rickets has returned too. This is presumed to be because of the rise in the use of Factor 50 and the likes. Parents have taken onboard the scare stories about the cancerous sun so have protected kids too much. They need sunshine, not too much obviously, but enough....otherwise ...

An immigration officer has the power to submit would be immigrants/visitors etc to a medical inspection prior to entry and then if the person fails they may be refused entry. However in my 13 years down the docks I can only recall a handful of cases where a Doctor was called in...and that was usually to confirm an IO's fears that the passenger was barmey or suffering from a mental disorder.
Maybe more accurate upto date figures are available?

I would just like to add I have been talking to some ambulance crews, and they have asked me, would I take up their case with the N.H.S. trust, I said yes I would.
They find that because of all the Ambulance stations closing down and only having a few left open, some crews have found that they will have over a 40mile round trip to get to work and home again, they have even been told there is no parking at some of the stations for their cars ,and at one station that means a 30min walk from the car park( which by the way they will have to pay for), some of the crews are ladys and that means when they go to work it could be very late hours, at night in the dark to,they do up to 12hours at work then have the long trip back home. This also adds alot of cost to themselfs,so much that one of them told me she will have to find a new job .So it means for some they will have to get to Ashford from Margate for their place of work and some do not have cars.

Tweny miles to get to work is nothing..Try seventy miles round trip 140miles then sometimes another two hundred to do to do a days work .

Yeah Sue you're dead right ..then try and spend the rest of your day scraping up the body parts from a RTA or transporting a heart attack or stroke victim to hospital before they pass away. Attending a house fire to recover the badly charred remains of a child found cuddled up in the corner of a burnt out house.Dealing with drunks, druggies ,hen parties etc etc,
Yeah sod 'em let them have a round trip of 140 miles to perform tasks that you and I would never consider that would give the normal person nightmares. In fact, the Tory led heartless council could even charge them for parking at work to boost their tea biscuit and hat fund.
Give me a break, get real, get a life and ..I'll stop there afore I see red..

some interesting posts here, read that before about us actually needing a certain amount of sun for health reasons.
well done vic on the paramedic front, great set of people.
they don't get paid a fortune so they need any extra help to make life easier for them.
