Just had this REMINDER through for TOMORROW NIGHT
* * * *
Dover Town Neighbourhood Forum
Local residents are invited to come along and have their say at the next Dover Town Neighbourhood Forum meeting on Thursday 16th June 2011 at St Mary's Parish Centre, Cannon Street, Dover from 6.00pm.
This Forum meeting will discuss "Public Services in the Dover District". Everyone is under pressure to deliver their services with fewer resources and representatives from various agencies will be available to update you on their role, the work they are doing or have planned, plus answer any questions you may have.
Representatives include Kent Police and the Community Safety Partnership, DDC Waste & Recycling, Kent Fire and Rescue plus others.
Doors open at 5.30pm, with light refreshments and an opportunity to view display stands, meet your local Councillors', public service partners and other Forum members.
All welcome: The Neighbourhood Forums are open to all residents (no matter where in the District you live) and there is no need to book - just turn up. Please feel free to send this e-mail on to anyone you think may be interested in coming along.

hardly need a meeting to know what concerns residents.
it mainly revolves around rubbish and dog mess whether it is in streets, alleyways and the river.
maybe we will be told why bins seem to be less and less in numbers too.

Will Vic make his usual contribution? No doubt he'll let us know as soon as he's back.

did anyone ask about the rubbish in alleyways, streets and the river?
if so, what were the replies.

Although I was not there I bet it was the typical reply along the lines of 'we are looking into the matter'.

Jean and I attended and we both found it very useful. There were a range of agencies there, from Health, to Voluntary and children's sectors and from crime and Kent Fire and Rescue to Dover's regeneration.
I did ask about the alleyways and the rubbish, also about increasing the powers of the enforcement officers, local health issues and many other things; I was in danger of hogging the time and the officers.

I forgot to mention on my previous posting, that there were very few members of the public there.
I emailed over 600 people; over 560 people have read this thread, but there were probably around 20 or less who came.
People grumble about DDC/KCC, that they don't do this, they don't do that, why isn't this done etc. etc. but when it comes down to being able to ask all those questions, they turn down that opportunity - why ?

For me it is a case of why bother, they do not listen just there as a PR exercise. Many of the elderly, me included, do not like going out in the evening and many of the young have better things to do after a hard days work.

I have added a piece about this on the frontpage. Very poor turnout...I dont think there were anything like 20... my assessment was much less, when you remove councillors and those involved it was very few indeed.
Very interesting revelations about the new policing though, see frontpage. Quite a shakeup.
