Glad to finally see you agree with me Barry,as I have been telling Mr Watkins and his Cabinet for a year that many people cant/won't be able to have these bins.Yet when I saw them I realised for some people they are much much TOO BIG.Still I have heard that a friend of yours complained that they were too big and she got a smaller one!
My lips are sealed who it is but she does post on here!I always have used bins put out on the pavements on the day and never had any problems with Foxes Cats or Gulls.I look forward to seeing you struggle to the pavement with them Barry, but you are luckier than most, you are younger/fitter than lots of people and you have a nice little area to put them.....actually that is an idea can I put mine on your front....and perhaps you could volunteer that area for all Forum members to put thier bins, save having the things outside everyones house!

If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
And also, what about people who are not able to put their bins/bags out first thing? Shift workers, people who work away, etc etc.

Probably be a lot less trouble to just do a quick tip run once a week and dump the lot in one place. I will carry on with the paper, that's easy and convenient even if I don't always remember which week it is collected.
But yes, there are many problems associated with this idiotic system.

There is a huge mass of uncollected black bin sacks at the end of Balfour Road at the moment, presumably not collected this morning by the crew as they had been dumped there. I assume they must have been left by locals who didn't want, or couldn't, use the new plastic leviathans.
I just hope this doesn't turn into a weekly game of bluff between DDC and those locals to see who will cave in first - either collected or be forced to use the dreadful plastic towers like a dutiful citizen. An ever-increasing mound of sacks is the last thing anyone wants to see and could become a health hazard. We'll see.

Barry, recycling is essential, and that's what these bins are for. I take my empty cider cans, empty food cans and glass-ware to the recycling bins, as a matter of principle.

A man in Deal tried to refuse these bins, informing the men that he uses the refuse tip in southwall rd once a week, so does not need them.
He was told that, very soon, he and everyone else would have to start paying to take rubbish there.
Does anyone know if this is true?

Those who do not bother to recycle are just lazy, it does not take brain power or time to put items in the appropriate containers.

I can't see the problem We've had them in Shepway for a few months now-an identical scheme operated by the same contractor. There were a few moans and groans and references to 'bin city' and the like. When you get used to the routine -it works well especially as the recycling rate really rockets-and that's what it's all about. SDC and DDC have got it right for a change! Persevere Barry and all will be ok!
Never give up...

Richard if we are on the same contract as I know we are,can you tell us how much you pay for your Green waste every year just so the Forumites know what comes next!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
I dont think it would have hurt to have the items that can go in each bin shown on each bin, it might help

Sarah, That is on the bottom of your calendar that came with the bins telling you which ones to put out and what days.

Just seen this thread after posting on the other one. Barry I am with you totally on this. We are being forced to do all this even though we pay for refuse disposal through our council tax. Goodness knows how much these plastic monsters have cost but with DDC trying to save money it seems daft to me. This is both frustrating and annoying and I also feel sorry for some elderly folk who don't understand it.
Good for you Barry for speaking out against it

The bins are being supplied by KCC and have chips in them I am told but only to find the owners if they get lost, charging for the amount of rubbish you put in there would almost certainly be possible,KCC get the money back from the re-cycling.
I have been warning you for over a year about these bins!

You have John, pity we didn't take more notice eh!
My old English teacher had a saying we all remember her by - "it's too silly for words" - - - rather apt here I think

Well folks this recycling nonsense is merely another example of how environmentalism has crept into another aspect of our lives and for the worse.
So we are told that recycling is good and green and will save the whale and help the planet and cool the climate and stop children dying and polar bears floating off on chunks of depleting ice floes and did I mention save the world?
Pah!
Stuff and nonsense the whole thing.
I say just dig a hole in the ground and dump the stuff and be done with the whole thing. Recycling is not going to save the planet. If you believe it will then you need your head tested.
I didnt get a calender

If you phone up they will send you one,or email one across to you. There is no plan to make any of us pay for them or whats in them,
