There is some moron that takes their dog for a walk past the shops in the High Street prior to opening at 9.00am. Several mornings recently we have had to clear up the dog s**t that is left behind often right near the shop door, not what us old ladies expect to have to deal with first thing. I should add we are not the only shop in the area that suffers from this fairly large dog going by the size of its deposits.
All this is after negotiating the mess left behind by varying other dogs on my way to the shop, I am now really mad after pushing my Sholley through one lot on my way home.YUK!!!!!!!!!!

there is one dog owner that must own something the size of a horse judging by the size of the deposits left outside my front gate some mornings.
people complain about what dexters and koniks leave behind in the hills but i see plenty of evidence that not all dog walkers carry bags with them.

We (someone) need to witness the act Howard, but in practical terms, how can that be done ?
Education won't work either, some people are just disgraceful and don't give a "*#@+".
I'd love to know the answer.

i was talking to the dog warden some time ago, he had a tip off that a woman in aylesham took her dog out at the same time early morning and never cleaned up after it.
he lay in wait the next day and issued an on the spot fine.
you're are right about education roger, fines are the answer.

Maybe the dog warden would like to do the same in the Charlton Centre area of the High Street, this has been happening on and off for months.
£100 fines and the threat of taking the dog away from them should work.

there was a chap in london road last week that let his dog dump in a shop doorway, i was about to say something but the look he gave me suggested he would not take kindly to any criticism.
needless to say the dog was a bull terrier.

That's good thinking Jan.

i doubt that the owners would be unduly worried about their dog being confiscated, many of the owners use them as a status symbol and see taking them for a walk as a chore.
Sadly this problem is at its worst its been for a long time in town and local paths its revolting and the people who allow this lazy behaviour should be fined

I would ask the dog warden what is best - someone should lay in wait with a camera !

The area I am talking about is supposed to covered by security cameras, makes you wonder if they are ever looked at or are they even working. I have not seen the dog warden or even their van for months, do we still have one?

I saw your post Howard and wondered if your "some time ago" was as long ago as mine would be, last summer I should think.
You seem to get all the 'bodies' your way you lucky? thing, dog warden, PCSO etc.

about september jan, yes we have a diamond pcso in ryan he was around here late last evening.
our resident dog lady now is inundated with "staffs", a few days ago i was up the heights and she was there and this grossly overweight dog made a beeline for me and had her muddy paws all over me.
the dog had not been walked hence her size, lovely creature would have kept her if i had not got a psychotic cat indoors.
it left me wondering about human nature that the owners had let this dog down so badly.

i have dog bags in the shop as lots of dog owners walk past on the way to the vets, and i know because sometimes i have been caught short , he decides 3 is a good number!
But you would be surprised how many people just dont carry them at all, the ones that normally do are mortified and very grateful when i pass them a little black bag.

This one just in from forumite Cllr Pat Sherratt who is currently having a technical problem.
Many thanks Pat

The issue with dog fouling is that the enforcement person "Dog Warden" is unable to cover the entire District.
With no apparent enforcement by police/pcso's it has been suggested by various people that Traffic Wardens who are now Enforcement Officers (or similar title) take on a wider enforcement role that would include enforcement of dog fouling. A good idea that I support as this is done in many towns.
However, in general, this would only cover the 8am to 6pm town area. Much dog fouling is early morning and late evening and occurs in residential areas not covered by "Traffic Wardens".
At DTC I have already suggested using a private enforcement organisation (mainly ex-servicemen) that is already used by Maidstone Borough Council. This firm work on a percentage of fines (I believe 70%) with the 30% going to the local Council.
Advantage is they are flexible with their working hours and there is, as far as I can ascertain, no financial commitment from the local Council (DTC or DDC).
It is possibly seen by some as using "Big Brother" tactics and is perhaps why some Councillors/Officers have not been keen to adopt a similar activity in Dover.
I wonder what views Forumites have of using such an organisation in Dover.

interesting idea, not come across it before.
seems a win/win thing to me, streets much cleaner and revenue for the cash strapped council.
i think the majority of dog owners would like to see it too.

I have asked (some time ago) that the DDC's Enforcement Officers be given greater powers and I'm sure I read somewhere that PCSOs are to be given greater powers.
Maybe both will come about and we can put a stop to these bad practices.

Until someone in authority walks in the stuff and traipses it all round the council offices or their home I believe nothing will be done.
