It was nice to see the horse trough and planters in full bloom on a Summer's day though, better late than never

as i said in another thread, smaller villages./town do it without any problem
and it makes the place look so much brighter
why not Dover
why is everything such a struggle just to get the basics

The council?
Just look at the road surface on the newly refurbished seafront for evidence of a lack of joined up thinking and a fine example of how to waste tax payers money.

I have a thought on this that says that it shouldn't be the total responsibility of DDC/DTC, but some financial involvelment by the local businesses.
I appreciate that they may feel they pay enough rent and rates, but to be honest, neither of these are the responsibility (or benefit) of either council. Yes I know DDC get a small percentage back from central government.
I'm sure all businesses here would benefit by having a smarter, cleaner, more welcoming Town; more people would come here to shop so it would benefit everyone.
I didn't get the opportunity to bring my projects and initiatives to fruition as I am no longer the Dover Business Support Manager for the Channel Chamber of Commerce, so there is no one the businesses can turn to for any kind of support, nor anyone to put into place any initiatives that will help the Town move forward, or change Dover from a "to-it-and-through-it" Town to being a destination.

you are right about business involvement of course, however my understanding is that some busineses were interested in sponsoring plant troughs.
one of our members said that he would gladly upkeep a trough in exchange for his name on it.

The marketing of the roundabouts and troughs seems to be outsourced to
http://www.marketingforce.co.uk/, maybe they should be contacted and told to pull their fingers out.

That is why it is so expensive, you have to pay the marketing company as well as DDC getting their percentage.

funnily enough today i spotted an advertisement on one of those town centre boards.
the reverse side was about the neighbourhood forums.
full marks to d.d.c. for getting in some revenue this way.

Those roundabout/flower-bed adverts are very expensive - prohibitively so for small businesses.
Indeed Howard, I had spoken to people about financially sponsoring the black flower tubs last year, but was told the businesses can't have their names on them, not sure why not, just that the answer was no.

Roger this is yet another example of council officers doing things and making decisions which fly in the face of common sense. Sometimes it seems to me that the Palace of Whitfield is populated with faceless and unaccountable gnomes all doing their best to embarrass their political masters and thwart their ambitions for the town.
And why on earth is DDC using a company based in Felixtowe to get sponsorship for its flower troughs?
