Ross - I do have a major issue with the proposed base station at the castle - the site is directly on top of the late 18th century Long Gun Magazine (named after the Pocket Pistol), and I cannot see how it can be constructed without severely damaging it ??
Been nice knowing you :)

Thanks Paul W & Paul S
I too am concerned about potential damage to a historic site and struggle to see with our weather conditions how this a cable car could be viable commercially

# 37..Who said DDC had money ?
DDC do not have any money. They are not even providing the services they should but they still have influence, not much I
grant you but together with KCC with all their contacts and sources of where the funds are they can twist a lot of the right
arms.
Engineering assessment will decide best site.
No parts of historical interest need to be disturbed.
Castle will not be closed when we have a cable car....might even get some help from `Heritage` !!!!!!
Cable Car will benefit greatly from cruise passengers but not entirely. look on the bright side of life ...go for it ..have a can
do attitude..live a little....
Thought......Why not make part of the ``Port Deal``who ever wins,subject to financing,or part,financing a cable
car.....there`s plenty of money out their when the Big corporations come out of the woodwork....

Reg - the Castle is closed for the winter - EH are unlikely to change that decision
Reg if you knew me you would know what my attitude is towards Dover and what I already do - I personally do not believe that a Cable Car is sensible or viable, I believe that a much better alternative that will include the Town is a shuttle bus service, perhaps using historic vehicles from Cruise Terminal to Market Square to Castle, changing at Market Square for other buses to Western Heights, Crabble Corn Mill, Transport Museum etc.

There are lots of ideas here, but who will run with any of them???
(i was going to say who will get them off the ground, but felt that might show a bias lol

I'm sure English Heritage would love to have such a spectacular way for visitors to arrive, and I suspect this could be just the sort of opportunity they need to push the attraction out of season. They will have been extensively involved in the discussions and would not been playing ball unless they were happy with the location of the base station.
As Paul says, the indecision over the port is undoubtedly delaying many projects at present. A decision is needed soon before investors start to look elsewhere. Seize the day!

We also shouldn't forget the potential the cable car would have in attracting those millions of ferry passengers to stop off in Dover. Much has been said on this Forum of the fact that the town doesn't do enough to persuade people into the town. What better way to advertise a "new look Dover" than the sight of a cable car soaring over the harbour as they arrive on the ferry. I am sure many people would stop off to take a ride, or plan a return visit.

This thing will have to run all the time to be cost-effective
In London ok, in Dover no, this is an expensive bit of engineering
For the passenger numbers that may us it.

what we seem to be forgetting is that an investor has undertaken a feasibility study and is ready to go with it.
people with that sort of money to spare are rarely careless with it, once the port situation is sorted then it is all systems go with a big new tourist attraction for dover.

# 39. ..Bearing this in mind.Is it possible or even necessary to suggest the new owner of the Port stumps up a contribution
towards the Cable Car project as it will enhance their Port and Dover.
# 46. Castle is closed at the moment in the winter ....not when we have a Cable Car and EH will join the Party.
Shuttle Bus services ....boring ....that will not lift Dover out of the Doldrums.
``Dream``as if you`ll live for ever.
A Cable Car will transform Dover .....
Dynamic and will enhance the White Cliffs of Dover, one of the land marks of the world and the Castle.
Dover`s image will change over night.
# 49. # 50.Good stuff ``Cable Car souring over the Habour``
11 million people use our Ferries annually and imagine every Cruise Ship approaching the Harbour to see the Cable Car and
White Cliffs of Dover .....need we say more..?

excellent reg, i don't see any drawbacks once we are assured that no heritage/historical sites are damaged.
this is coming here free, gratis and for nothing, all risks are being taken by the entrepreneur.
the nearest cable car is london as far as i know, people will visit purely for the ride.
we must hope that the port situation is sorted out and the naysayers are kicked into touch.
