# 18 ...have to agree.A Cable car as in many towns and city`s is an amazing attraction and actually
becomes the Hub for investment at each terminal.
It would also keep many cruise passengers in Dover ....think about it.....thousands of them dock in
Dover...
# 5 ...trams and buses....where`s the romance in life ?
# 10...Snow ........Switzland has a `bit` of that...
# 16...Engineering will solve those `minor problems` Some of the best cables cars I have seen have
been put on postage stamps of land in horrendous surrondings.....just need a `cando` attitude....
It is one of the ideas that arose during my tenure and one that the present CEO of DDC also
agrees with.If my memory serves me well so did the previous CEO of DDC John Moir ...please
don`t quote me....

Nice idea, but I for one certainly wouldn't pay £5/£10 (as I would expect it to cost), just to get a lift up somewhere that I could walk in 10 minutes and a lot of people wouldn't do too !
Been nice knowing you :)

Locals might not pay, not more than once anyway, but I think tourists would. It would be lot more fun than walking.

Paul...I would take any bets you are in a minority....cruise passengers and people on holiday, the fare is less than petty cash
...........by the way are you scottish ?

Wonder if it will be free when people get to the Castle and realise how much it costs ?!!
Also based on the Castle being closed for a huge chunk of the year, then dodgy weather conditions closing it, then it won't be open when the Castle is closed in the evenings. It would be rather limited availability....
Been nice knowing you :)

"Yes, some kind of tourist attraction.
"What about a castle or something historic?
"That would get them in."
Love it, Darren!

i think most cruise passengers that visit town would have no problem paying a tenner, sort of thing we all do on holiday.
the season for the cable car would of course have to be restricted to the period between easter and the end of september, would that be enough to make it pay?

Some restored Napoleonic fortification on the other side of town would be another great addition, but heaven help anyone that suggests a great glass elevator up the Grand Shaft !!!!

Been nice knowing you :)

Of course there would be hurdles to overcome, but we need a 'can do' attitude. For things to change for the better we need to have a vision and it needs to be bold! Other places do it, so why not Dover?
I agree Dover already has fantastic heritage attractions, but they've been here for hundreds of years and we need to update our offer. A cable car would be another icon and reason to visit Dover. Success breeds success - perhaps one way of persuading English Heritage that that other great icon of Dover should be open year round!

DT1
We have a castle, and no money for the town coming in
So the public taxpayers have to keep paying big tax to pay for public sector sponger

It's not just the ride on a cable car would save time, it's the wonderful views that will be had and it will be a great attraction.
As Paul W said, it will be (if it goes ahead), financed by the private sector not DDC.
The air-space over the Gateway flats has been resolved, so that's not a problem.
When people see the Town is moving forward and showing a welcome to developers who are going to improve many aspects and areas, others will want to invest here too.
Success breeds success and stagnation breeds more stagnation - what do we want for Dover ?

DDC / KCC should make a joint effort.Their united clout /representation should be applied to all their many ``sources``
Start the ball rolling Roger ............it would change Dovers image and investment will happen at the same time.
Every where in the world where theres a cable car businesses around the terminals thrive and the spin off helps the town or
city......even the shoe shine boys make a nice living..........

Apologies for being blunt - but what was it about Paul W's post that many of you did not get ? This will not be funded by DDC money.
Moving on
where exactly in the Castle grounds will the upper terminal be sited?
which part of the historic site will be demolished?
or will it be sited outside the Castle walls?
If the latter what do we do with all those people when the Castle is closed?

if it ever comes to fruition i cannot see it operating outside the tourist season, it is the cruise passengers that would be the main users and the castle is open when they disembark.

Ross at the Castle the base station is near the saluting base, for the seaward base the site was in the Wellington docks near to De Bradelei centre.
The overflying rights are in place.
An independepent feasilbility project has been undertaken & there is a private sector investor ready to undertake the scheme.
The problem is the indecision over the Port privatisation.

no doubt other possible inward investment is stymied by the delay over the bob/neil port.
autumn 2013 seems to be the likely decision date, let's hope the private investor has the patience to sit through it all.
