10:0386159Well i received Dover Mercury yesterday and Dover Express today .No more Dover than flying .Sixty pence of no news .Hardly any cover re the snow .There were several stories out there but some reporters more keen on having their photos in paper .I thought the job description was to cover worthy news items .
Nothing about icy footways .Plenty of news .How about "Did you get to work today "Im sure many interesting stories of how people got to work etc .
A visit to the hospital maybe .A ride on the bus .I could get a few stories for them .
Why do i continue to buy the locals .I like to see how council issuies are reported .

i share some of your thoughts, but if you were a member of labour party you would have even more reason not to buy one of them

10:4986167this issue came up last year, the papers are extra thin but the cover price remains the same.
this week's editions were a day early leaving less time to find stories and next week 2 days of possible news is lost.

12:4786171Sue, page 1 Dover Riverside Centre, page 2 KCC, page 3 Dover by-election(s), page 6 Brian Philp from Dover's Roman Painted House, page 7 Duke of Yorks school, page 8 Dover soldier, page 9 Snow, then some Deal and Walmer stuff (which is district news) page 18 Dover girl in competition, page 21 Dover grammar school awards.
so actually there is Dover news. And yes we were in a picture for the end of our appeal just as those who volunteered their services for the party will be in pictures in the Jan 6 edition. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

15:1886185Kathy, that means out of the first 21 pages 8 are to do with Dover and 13 are not. Half of those relevant pages will be adverts so 4 whole pages of Dover news is not exactly a lot.
This is a good example of why I stopped buying either local paper.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

15:5186204But you are not out of it Keith.
You might not be elected but you are an activist as demonstrated on this Forum.
You campaigned on the streets for Gordon [your statement].
Don't know how that squares up with ""supposed non political public servants".
You are a public apolitical public servant are you not Keith?
If not I'll retact.
You can't have it both ways .

I will reply to you, although don't need to, but now you raise it lets get it right.
from the point of view of the labour party i'v not been a member for 2 years
on the point of Gordon, yep i leafleted with him, as a friend, there are a few labour candidates i would still leaflet/campaign for
I always will be a labour voter.
for me it's in my blood, and unlike others i could not jump ship just to gain entry to a council.
Paul im like any other poster on here i have strong beliefs, and won't change thaty even though you have tried to silence me(won't ever work)
im thinking about joining sheila amos with all the great work she and her volunteers do in the clarendon and westbury community decision, but still to chat to her further on that one.
as you know im heavily involved as sec of town and pie activities club which i love being in.
on the issue of councils im never going back there again
but i will challenge/debate/disagree with comments on here when the need arises
BRIAN
Tried the legal route(presume thas what you meant)
they find in your favour but take no further action so hardly worth the effort.
sadly the body that looks into these issues has no teeth

16:1486209Keith,
So as an apolitical public servant you are actively supporting/promoting a political party. That's fine we all understand that now.
Thanks.

16:2486211Then how can you be an apolitical public servant.
There are conventions, I'll leave it at that, whether you or I like it or not Keith.
As a councillor I abide by mine, as a public servant I would expect you to abide by yours.
You know that.

16:4686214I am a deputy media person for the Labour Group and I have to work with all local papers,I understand what Keith is saying in that a newspaper can print things which turn out not to be the truth even though they printed them in good faith.I think this problem stems from a clash of personalities between the Labour Group and a Newspaper.
I have no problems with any of the newspapers and read them both, and I must say I think in recent years they have got better and probably more even handed.I have friends at both newspapers that I have made over the years and yes I have even been called names but I have no complaints.Even though neither paper is printed in Dover and the offices ar out of town.
I also dropped leaflets in lots of doors and some of the people I know that helped were not even Labour party members, but just someone who wanted to 'help out' and that is fine,to do something you believe in or feel the need to do even without belonging to a Political Party is no problem.
I know at least 2 local vicars that either have or still do deliever leaflets and only 1 is a member of a political party, does that stop them preaching...no of course not.I also know of another Vicar who is active in the Tory Party but doesn't advertise it.
Many people are not able or are allowed to be members of a Political party but still feel they should help.I know one member of the Council workforce who was a Chairman of a local Tory ward, and had to give it up so they could keep the job, fine I work with the person as easily as anyone else, but that person could still support the Tories.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
