Keith, the answer is, we must not get involved militarily in the Syrian war, which has the potential to evolve into an all-out regional conflict if more combatants and armies from other countries get involved.
The Russians, for example, do favour a negotiated end to the conflict, but not a Western military involvement by way of supplying arms to minority-rebels or outright aggression.
The Syrian government in 2011 changed the constitution by way of a referendum to allow multi-party democracy.
The rebels do not want it!
If we were to go head-on into a conflict that could evolve into a massive regional conflagration and open a Cold War with Russia, we would become the most stupid nation on Earth!
WE DO NOT OWE THE REBELS IN SYRIA ANYTHING.
We do not need to sacrifice ourselves for their blood-thirsty hatred.

Ian, I doubt the dog smells occupy world-wide front-page coverage as the Syrian conflict does.
They don't cause millions of people to become refugees either.
