most countries have a sausage with dubious ingredients that people either love or loathe, i often wonder what is inside a saveloy.
as for snails they are just slugs that own a house as far as i can see.

Slow-cookers would be the same I guess Heike. Cooking for one is less interesting than for two or a family, but of course you have to do it, or starve.
I quite enjoy cooking and as it is now just for me, I can experiment, but whatever I cook, always seems to have an Indian theme.

Have you made your Christmas Cakes yet?
For those who didn't see my special recipe, last year, here it is:
Christmas Cake Recipe
Ingredients :
1 cup water, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1 cup brown sugar, lemon juice,
4 large eggs, nuts, 1 bottle Johnnie Walker, 2 cups dried fruit.
Method : sample the Johnnie Walker to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the whisky again.
To be sure, it really is OK. Pour 1 cup of whisky and drink. Repeat.
Turn on electric mixer. Beat 1 cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 tsp of sugar. Beat again.
Make sure whisky is still OK. Turn off mixerer. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in cup of dried fruit.
Mix on the turner. If the fruit gets stuck in the beaters, pry it loose with a drewscriver.
Sample the whisky to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift 2 cups of salt. Or something. Whatever you can find.
Greash the oven and push in the fridge. Turn the cake tin 350 defrees.
Don't forget to beat off the the turner. Throw the bowl through the window.
Check the whisky again and go to bed.

My favorite cheap meal is a baked spud, dollop of butter and a sprinkle of cheese and onion. Comfort food.
You can't beat a chicken for value, roast on sunday, cold cuts on monday, chuck the carcass in a pot to make a stock for a hearty veg soup, float some dumplings on the top and that humble bird has fed a family for 3 days.

Lesley thats sound just like me ;) use it on sandwiches and then if more leftover than thought, I make soup :)
Kath you recipe sounds lovely. I dont do any alcoholic beverages... I think with this recipe you need it?? Unless you have an alternative instead of Johnnie Walker?
I then give it a go xxx

I always keep a good supply of pulses, rice and pasta when winter sets in. It makes a small amount of meat go a long way, fills you up too!
I remember working with Health Promotions on a scheme to get families to cook together, I think Roger came to one of the sessions at Archers Court School. The children really enjoyed working with the chef and produced some tasty dishes, all cooked on a budget, it was interesting to see how eager to try new foods the youngsters were, more so than some of the parents!
