The squaring of the circle regarding Independent PPCs (prospective parliamentary candidates), with the well ingrained notion among the electorate of voting for a Party to form a Government, has occupied me ever since the last election.
I came here, and other places also, in the run-up to the last election arguing for the election of more Independent MPs and learned the lesson that not being in a position to form a Government is an all-but-impossible hurdle come a General Election.
This victory of the Respect Party is heartening (for me) nevertheless.
It has been argued over at least the last two elections that the gap between the Red & Blue affords the voter little or no choice as to who to vote FOR (or indeed against). This by election points-up that fact. The fact, that to all intents and purposes there were but two viable alternatives to attract the voter: to vote for the grey-mush that is already represented in Parliament or to vote for the one that is not of that 'mush'.
What I have been working on is arriving at something (a Political Party) that will form the next Government, but will be an amalgam of Independent Candidates chosen by each community from that community and FOR that community. I'm nearly there. BUT Enough of me...now normal programming will resume...

I always love it when Labour gets a good punch in the mouth, even if delivered by someone as utterly odious as Galloway.
This must be very worrying for Miliminor - Labour is clearly unelectable even in their heartland.

What about the Tories, Barry?

This was absolutely no problem for us it is not one we would ever expect to win. Also I suspect a lot of anti-Labour tactical voting went on, in fact there has been feedback that this was the case.

A friend of ours used to make some money as a Galloway look-alike. Looks like he will be in demand again. With my resemblance to Saddam, perhaps we could start a Dover chamber of horrors.

I'd pay to see that. Would we get to ask for requests...?

Say what like about George-he's a great speaker. Take a look at the various videos on utube of when he took on the US Senate after being accused of collusion with Saddam. He totally trounces them with his brilliant articulation-he screws them up into a little ball and chucks them in the waste bin. When he finishes each piece-all without notes-the senate panel are speechless. He really sees them off-it's pretty to watch his verbal demolition technique.
Never give up...

May-be I'm missing something, but still can't grasp how Millyband should be so upset if the Conservatives got 8%. If this is a national trend, also considering the 50% turnout, which is very low for an MP election, then Dodgy Dave is in for hard times.

I tried guessing what UKIP's number was in the "others" column of the Bradford West results.
The combined "others" seemed microscopic as it is, so as a sum-up I'd say the LibDems, with their mini percentage, outdid UKIP many times over.
Seems like a number of party balloons have popped here!
But as a reader and participant on Sky News, I can confirm that Conservative popularity is fast falling, it's in a nose dive.

Yvette Cooper may well suit the New Labour Party for next leader because she can out-Tony Tony.
Not that this will help the electorate or present the New Labour Party with a shoo-in at the next election, far from it.

I thought Alex's, #23, was referring to the Tories not being voted into Government this term?
