To have a high profile/expensive eating place...with gorgeous views of
Dover Bay and Harbour....and to call it Hythe Bay fish restaurant....
leaves nothing to the imagination about the scope of this management....
£40..00....for a meal for two...lunch or evening should be within the normal budget of everyone

Well, we did enjoy our evening!! The service was perfect, the food was great, and the company was terrific.......The music was the only real drawback - a bit of MOR stuff, but quiet enough not to intrude which was a blessing. I guess its a taste thing - we would have preferred a bit of Vivaldi or Saint Saens quietly in the background, but we are not quibbling! I am guessing that once word gets out it will rival and overtake Cullens Yard with no problems at all, and quite right too. I think the service issues were possibly just teething problems - the girls serving tonight were charming and smiley and pitched it all just right, and no long waits. And it is my favourite thing in the world, to take dinner and a few (possibly more than a few as you can probably guess!) drinks while looking out on the sea. The tables, crucially, were far enough apart to be comfortable but close enough together to enable a bit of an eavesdrop in the lulls in conversation. I hope they don't change that.
And I know you all want to know: the toilets were spotless....
Please go and try this restaurant - well worth the visit.

nice to hear that bern sounds like the teething problems are being ironed out.
sorry to hear about the music, if i had known i would have loaned them my "brotherhood of man" boxed set.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!
Just to add - our evening cost just over £75 for both of us including wine. A very good deal indeed.

Glad it was a good evening Bern and that the service was as expected and hoped for.
It is an ideal location and some of that must be reflected in the price I guess.
Did you have the dobster ?
I've not been in there for ages, so can you tell me if the McDonald's furniture is still there, or is it proper tables and comfortable chairs ?

Well we do miss going in there but the cost is to high for us now,but we like going into Richards cafe and having a sandwich and a cupper in the week.

It is true the table was a bit wobbly and the chairs were a bit B&Q, which was a minor irritation, but if there is furniture on order that solves that one! I should point out that the cost was without pud because we had a special one on ice for when we got home. But it did include the 6 oysters we had. Well, it was our anniversary! And we are old, not dead! I can't emphasise enough how splendid the setting was - there is something very special about dining with a sea view. Nothing compares.
And thank you all for your kind wishes. Much appreciated chaps and chapesses!

So glad you enjoyed your evening Bern. Congratulations on your anniversary!
The manager told us that they inherited the tables and chairs and sofas from the previous management and that new furniture, lighting, curtains etc. are due to come shortly - I think she said 24th August - so should all improve the general ambiance.
They are also planning a proper menu board outside.

Nice coffee (we just nipped down there for a quick one) but a tad pricey (£4.80 for a large espresso and a coffee with cream) and my espresso was served in a cold cup therefore tepid by the time it reached me. Experience also slightly marred by a smoker upwind of us on the balcony.

That occurred to me too - we were lucky and the doors were open, the air was fresh, and there were no smokers, but I did say to the Old Man that a smoker out there with the doors open would have made a big difference - I can't bear smoke!

So glad you enjoyed yourself and am sure you did not 'need' the oysters but any excuse for oysters is a good one.
If my husband was still alive it would have been our 49th wedding anniversary on 24th August so I hope the new furniture arrives safely.

So pleased to hear that you enjoyed your anniversary evening meal at The Hythe Bay Fish Restaurant Bern, and Oysters too, bet you also enjoyed that pud on ice later at home
I popped in there last week to take a look at the menu and did note the same furnishings from before so I am pleased to hear that the spanking new ones have arrived
Yes Marek, always good to see our forumites supporting the Forum advertisers

Jan - I couldn't find an email address for you but wanted to say I am thinking of you on what would have been your 49th. Nothing I can say other than hugs to you.
