i wonder why that whoever runs the restaurant never puts a menu outside?
went past this morning, just a sign that said seafood restaurant and bar.
We have some lovely wide leafy roads with pleasant aspects. From nearly every part of the town you can see hills or the castle (which I firmly believe is second to none). As I have said before I truly think nothing more than some committment from owners of town centre properties would make a huge improvement. Just cleaning and sprucing up paint-wise for example.
We have history such as few other towns can boast and in plain sight historical buildings or earthworks from the Iron Age onwards.
I should like to see a bit more advertisement for special events, for example I did not know about the Dog Show thing in Pencester or that the fair was here. Probably because I do not get out much, but how about a area on this web-site devoted to upcoming events?

i started threads on both of those events diana.
And Diana is right - Dover (reps) are useless at publicity and positivity. Dover is great, they should live up to it not drag it down.
Sorry didn't see them Howard, have been a bit down since op for dialysis access cut nerves to fingers and it is hard to type. Will try to keep up!! Sweetie!.

I agree with you Diana and Bern about events being advertised.
I knew the two events mentioned were on because I saw them on the forum otherwise I would not have known they were on.
Diana, there is an area on the site for future events called Roger's What's On but at the moment there is nothing at all on it. PaulB would it be possible to change it so we could all post future events when we hear about them.

And perhaps we can opt to be sent an email when someone posts an event?

There is lots we should be shouting about in Dover at the moment here is one example

Guys the Whats On page see menu left, is open to anyone to put up an event, and although it started reasonably well it has fallen into disuse. It was originally called Whats On and then we changed it to Roger's Whats On...but it has slumped away. I dont have any time to go do anything on it, but as you can see if you look, it wasnt for me to use but for the general public and/or forumites to use, but few did.
So the outcome is that I will drop it altogether in the autumn through lack of use. All these things cost money to get built and added on...but if you dont use them you lose them.
We will drop it in the autumn completely ...through lack of use.
Best we can offer now is through chatter on the Forum.

I am delighted to see the Hythe Fish Bay restaurant taking up residence at our lovely Seasports centre. I am a frequent visitor to their restaurant in Hythe. I have many friends who live in Hythe so often down there especially at this time of year. I really hope they do well here in Dover so I for one will certainly use it. Their menu is quite varied so I'm sure one can find a meal to suit one's pocket so to speak and their food is delicious.
Has anyone heard of The Rocksalt Restaurant which opened at Folkestone Harbour in May this year. I believe it has something to do with Gorden Ramsey or one of his chefs. I was to go there recently with friends but they were booked for a private function on the same day. I believe it is definitely worth a visit but not sure about the costs as of yet but I guess it must be quite expensive.

guys and girls, yes we have heritage out of town and in some retrospect a tage expencive [dover castle as an ie] i know that being of wfat ever gets you in cheaper, new shops are wellcome site but there is a downside to it.walking through the town we have unevan paths with puddles when it rains.vegitation growing out grade 2 listed buildings with run down shops/areas that tourists see.so in concluesion if the town was sorted out people would stay and lingure longer and maybe spend more money it the town center, futhermore the drunks/drugies dont help either.so come on ddc/dtc and planers get your fingers out and get this town shineing and worthy of bigging up,we may get a page in tourist pamplets instead of one line.

The Rocksalt restraurant is very good but sometimes hard to get a booking .The Fish and ship The Shed is also good
I wish that The Eight Bells could be forced to move thier smoking area to the abck of the building , the behaviour of some of the customers is disgusting at times and very intimidating

We had a meal at the 8 Bells recently and thought the standards had dropped (not with the meal but with the atmosphere, cleanliness, tidiness, etc.), will not be eating there again.

Howard, I think the reason the Hythe Bay Fish Restaurant at the Seasports Centre didn't have a board outside today was the wind.
We went inside and there was a board advertising the special £40 for 2 for 2 courses and a bottle of house wine. 3 choices of starter, main course and dessert. Looked good.
It was busy even at 12.45 pm.
However, I do think they should put a full menu on the window as I'm sure more people would enter if they knew the prices in advance.
It's our wedding anniversary this month - here's hoping the hint, heavily dropped, will be taken!

there hasn't ever been a menu outside since the centre opened sarah.
many people have said to me that they will not go in because of that.
i don't know anything about the new people other than what i have read here but a menu and hours of opening are paramount in attracting new customer.
