Roger
As yet it remains closed; the last I heard they were aiming to have it open by the middle of this week. Clearly, that hasn't happened and I have heard nothing further.
True friends stab you in the front.
Jenn, whilst it commendable to get the locals out, what Dover needs is outsiders to come here, spend a few pounds and go home to tell their friends and family what a great place this is. To acheive that we have to get off our butts and do some PR.
Perhaps PaulW or Sue can advise what the DDC tourism team are doing. This is a big opportunity for the town, let's hope we don't pass it up.

Any publicity has to be good, but the main thing is to fill the beach to let them know we care.

Andy.
I have just spoken to Steve Ladner from BBC Radio Kent, he knew nothing about it.
When you have details and times pass them to me and I will give them to Steve who will also pass it on to KMFM and also have an official photographer to come along.
Power to the forum again eh.

The word WILL spread with or without the DHB.

just a reminder next week begins the marking of the 70th anniversary of the dunkirk evacuation.
Ian, when did DDC appoint you as the Toursim Manager for Dover mate? What? They didn't? Well, what is there person doing then? Possibly doubling up as a chauffeur perhaps instead of doing the job they are paid for? Of course, I assume DDC actually has someone looking after tourism?
ps Well done mate

Thank you Sid.
To hell with officialdom or whatever you may call it. Some person is being paid for a job they cannot handle. I know a guy that can and it aint me. ( RW )
Have heard of some top events in the making for Dover including the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
When datails are given I will pass them on.
Andy. I have e-mailed you, contact me ASAP.

Well done Ian, you could do worse than remind Steve that the one group who have all the relative info is the harbour board

DHB does'nt even come into the equation Tom.
They are a law unto themselves, I know I worked for them.
I would like to use bad language but not on the forum,
Dover can work around toss pots like these, the forum is a good tool to do so.

FINALE of a week long Help for Heroes bike ride through France.
SUNDAY 30th May.
12-15 hrs Spitfire display over the harbour.
14-00 hrs Cyclists arrive by landing craft and RN ship between the sea sport center and the POW pier.
After landing the Red Devils Parachute into the water.
A mechandise van will be in attendance, and possibly the Sun Newspaper, who are in support of the event, may wish to bring their sun bus-a double decker bus for publicity.

No one is responsible now Ian.
I'm not going to keep on about "I would have done this " or "I would have done that"; no point and people don't want to keep reading about it either - I pick that up from the Forum.
No one wants to know a yesterday man - good or not; worthy or not.
If there are any posters or images, I will be happy to send round an email with an attachment on it, telling everyone.
Recently, I have been working with a chap who is organising a reception for around 3 dozen guys - current and ex-soldiers who are marching 70 miles in 3 days from Dunkirk to comemmorate the march made 70 years ago.
They will arrive at Dover docks around noon on Monday 31st. of May and march to the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club. There will then be a reception for them - free tea and coffee etc. and a welcome and inspection by the Mayor of Dover.
The guys will be dressed in period uniform and carrying period arms (decommissioned of course); there will also be some nurses in attendance.
Also parked outside the Yacht Club will be some 1940 military vehicles.
After the Yacht Club reception, Dave Atkins of the Dover Transport Museum will be taking them to Cruise Terminal 1 (for FREE - well done Dave) for a service of thanksgiving, as that was the Marine Station during the war.
Please do come along to welcome these guys (and gals); they last did this march 10 years ago; it is a gruelling march for them and they will appreciate your welcome and your warmth.
Have a drink with them in the Yacht Club too - I'll sign you in.

Thanks, Ian, for the timetable - you beat me to it. I received the same info myself via Terry Nunn, to whom also a debt of thanks.
Let's hope that the weather next Sunday matches that of today.

The event on Bank Holiday Monday is different and separate to the one on Sunday; both important they are supported though.
