Advance notice of a seaborne amphibious landing on Dover Beach........
You may remember a couple of years ago the landing on Dover Beach of hundreds of cyclists raising money for Help For Heroes; they landed in landing craft from HMS Bulwark as the final stage of a fundraising cycle ride. If you were there you'd remember it as a moving, emotional event for those involved and a fascinating spectator event for us onlookers. Well, they're back! Sunday 30th May the landings are to be staged again - time not given to me yet, but if the last one is anything to go by, it will be in the early part of the evening, circa 6pm. I shall post details of times once I have them.
It's well worth while turning out to support the cyclists (many of them disabled ex-servicemen) and their families and to welcome these people to Dover. Bring your cameras!
True friends stab you in the front.
Yeap keep us posted , will attend .

Thanks for that Andy last time nobody knew it was happening, lets all go down and greet them. That's if we've recovered from the beer festival at the mill.

Thanks Andy! But I will state that it is wrong, in my view, to send our soldiers to Afghanistan, their Country is Britain, and they have been ill-informed to the reality in Afghanistan, where local tribes have often fought eachother and than made friends. Opposing Afghans always make friends after a while, and this war there will never end as the government has made believe. Hundreds, or thousands more soldiers from Britain, America and elsewhere will be killed or maimed, and it will still not be ended! The Afghan police regularly release all Taliban fighters, so it is sheer murder that is going on, against our soldiers!

Whatever you believe about the rights and wrongs of war, the fact remains that the personnel of the British Armed Forces are killed, wounded and maimed every day in the service of this country; please don't confuse politics with heroism. Help For Heroes is nothing to do with politics, it's about ensuring that war widows are not left destitute, that those wounded receive financial help during recovery and that those who lose a limb get a helping hand in finding their way back into a full life again. It's a noble cause, well worthy of your support.

Andy well done for keeping us up to speed there. Yes the last time nobody at all knew what was happening..see this picture it explains more. Very small crowd on beach , everyone bewildered as to what was going on...
I think young Phil got some good ones as he happened to be on the spot. There is a feature somewhere in our archives.
Very gloomy day it was if I remember, the picture above was enhanced. All the craft were black I think and were released from a mothership called the Bulwark. Thats just off the top of my head now..

Hello Andy! I do most certainly support the heroes, but my point was how to prevent more soldiers being killed and maimed in a war that they are not supposed to be fighting, not to discredit those who have been killed and maimed.
Infact, I wasn't blaming the British and other soldiers for being in Afghanistan in a war, but those who sent them there drivelling a heap of lies, which they do!

All I know is that it is in the evening; my wife has been told that she'll probably have to be at work in the seasports centre for it, so I'm guessing that it will be sometime around 6 or 7pm. As soon as the time is given to her, I shall post it here. As Scotchie says, last time it was an embarrassment, so let's get it right this time.

Excellent event last time, and like most people on this Forum only found out about it by chance. Let's hope this Forum along with the local media can publicise the event this year and get a lot more people to come along and support.

Thanks Andy for the advanced info, the last time that the cyclists landed on our beach the powers that be (was it DTC?) felt that it was too much of a security risk to let the community of Dover know that they were coming, like Duh, this being a garrison town we look after our own. I notice that we still have not been notified by 'official' (note the small 'o') sources as of yet, maybe they will inform us after the event, again

OK, so I have the time of the Red Devils parachute jump. 3pm, not as previously advised in the early evening - so I guess we're looking at the beach landings a while before the parachute jump. I would estimate that the beach landings will probably be around 2pm, therefore, although I would stress that this is an estimate and no confirmed schedule has yet been notified to the Seasports Centre. Again, when they know, you will.
