Oh heavens...I did have some information through on this but forgot to include it... have lost the plot with the server difficulties over the past few days. Focused on other things as it were.
Will look for it now and add it here....yes here we are
******************************
We are inviting you all to a public debate about the Port of Dover Community Trust (PDCT), a key part of Dover Harbour Board's privatisation plans, on 21 June 2011 at Dover Town Hall at 5.30m (complimentary refreshments from 5pm).
The Port of Dover Community Trust [PDCT] will, for the first time, give the community of Dover a direct stake in the success of the Port. Supporting Dover's regeneration, supporting new enterprises, skills and education and the public realm, the PDCT will establish a new relationship between the Port and its community.
This meeting is an important opportunity to engage with us in the debate and put forward your thoughts and ideas for the establishment and management of the PDCT in the coming months, and to discuss your ideas on how an economic impact of up to £90-95 million in the first five years and millions every year thereafter can be used to best serve the community.
Independently run, the PDCT will represent our ambition to lock in the success of the Port with its community over the long-term.
Don't miss your chance to be part of this big debate and the start of a new and exciting phase in Dover's future by contributing your thoughts and ideas.
We look forward to seeing you there.

I cannot go - am laid up with a shockingly bad knee. But I look forward to a summary soon on DF. You know how I feel about it.

i cannot see the point of this meeting, until it is decided who will buy the port and at what price nobody is in a position to make any promises about any monies spent on the town.
sounds very much like a p.r. exercise.
like bern i wil eagerly await a report from any attendee.

You need a heavy dose of cynisism with DHB though Keith. Interesting how suddenly they are all touch-feely towards the town. I wonder why?

I agree Barry.
For years they have shown no interest in the town and it's activities, suddenly they remember the rugby club and the "community".

Getting there at 5:00 you were greeted with coffee and a Danish pastry, a step up from biscuits and there were even some nice gypsy tarts left over at the end.
The meeting itself was well covered by the media, with cameras flashing continuously and was very smoothly stage managed. DHB presented their opinion that they have always been very concerned about the town and that their desire to support regeneration has always been there. Following her explanation of the legal side of the proposed 'Port of Dover Community Trust' their legal consultant felt she had to add that she had never known such commitment from a board.
As presented, the proposed PDCT would see an initial donation of £10m and £20m worth of shares in the newly privatised port. The dividend on those shares would see a guaranteed return of £1. million a year for the first five years. As a charitable trust it would be up to the board of trustees to determine how the money was spent in the town (a few possibilities as to types of spend were presented). The make up of the board and the appointment process is still to be decided and will be the subject of further meetings or seminars facilitated by DHB.
A lot of questions were asked, and answered, but I will let someone else post on them. Vic did ask if it could remain a royal port and invest in the town but was told that the legal constraints on it's current status made that impossible.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
Richard Armour
When T2 was put on the table back in 1964 there was no mention of money going to the town they stole that money from the ferries company, bob gold field was brought in to strip the port as he did with the airports to sell to the highest bidder now that it could go to a peoples port they are running scared and trying to white wash the people of Dover with bribes he should stand down then maybe without him we may see a management that is down to earth and cares about dover but while he is there no one can trust anything he says. Vic has answered the question if it could remain a royal port and invest in the town but was told that the legal constraints on it's current status made that impossible.

The trouble is, the people's port seems to have got lost somewhere, no-one seems to know where to find it.
Or is it just me?

BARRYW
I want what is best for the town, and the peoples port appears no better than the D.H.B. if you look at it with an unbiased view.
the harbour board i undestand been supporting the rugby club for some time long before all this blew up, to be fair to them.
As i say it will be interesting to see the final outcome

An unbiased view from you Keith - never
You have absolutely no basis for what you have just said about People's Port.
