PaulW - that could be replicated here if there weren't so many objections from various departments; I'm sure the community would pull together if they were given the go-ahead.
I've said all this before to those who make the decisions. There is a play area near the bottom of the hill that leads to the Valient Sailor, just outside Capel, that is not on the level and is very similar in size and topography to the Clarendon field.
Children do not need everything to be on the level, apart from the equipment itself.
Thanks for that info. Peter.

Roger, I'm up for a non DDC officer initiative.
If you want to chat to Sue Chandler & try to work out something that is community led I'm sure some resource can be made available.
Ray Newsam is working on a project at Lydden with Geoff Lymer.

Guston Green was a massive project, an acre of farming land, uneven ground, slopes, no access and the banks (proposed access point) were 2m higher than road level. We had no money left within parish funds after land was purchased in 2011, no safe boundary, no safety crossing, the whole site was weeds and thistles. Within 2 years we had an established disabled pedestrian access point made with Saxon paving and oak sleepers, a secure fenced boundary, new turf, crossing points and safety barriers, a 5 as side football pitch, picnic benches, zip wire, and a fantastic summer house built and shipped all the way from Lithuania. We have just crossed £70,000 in funding for this project and have more in the pipeline! We have more play equipment on order providing a tree house climbing multi play unit, slides, swings etc and an adventure trail. This was a real community project!!
My point......anything is possible!

Congratulations Tracey - very well done to all of you.
Could you email me (lindenrog@aol.com), I'd like to come out there and take a look; perhaps we could arrange a date/time for me to do so.

the description of the guston green project puts me in mind of capel where the parish council have worked to find funding for their recreation ground to have facilities broadly similar to guston.

Roger and Ray....happy to help if I can. I will email you both. I'm just starting a new project in the village 'Chance Meadow Park' which is our village centre traditional style park. Installed in 1972, the park is in a stare of disrepair and items have had to be removed for health and safety reasons. We already have £9000 of funding but need at least £20,000 to get this finished. Again I will pull in the tradesmen from our village and use their 'free' manpower, it is important to have the support of the community as with their help many costs can be dissolved and it is this type of community cohesion that funders are very interested in and are keener to support. See our village facebook page.
I also found a real asset his name is Mark McGeehan, company Mscape, typically a landscape gardener by trade but is also a playground installer and qualified inspector. He is a sole trader and has single handedly transformed Guston....he's flexible so works as and when funding is available and he has cut our installation charges by half. He's fantastic! He's living in Lydden at the mo but based out of Whitfield. His partner came to our 'Guston Green' opening and spoke to me about lack of play facilities in Lydden and that she would be keen to help!
Get him on board as soon as you have acquired the land!
