good idea form either boris or cameron
but must ask can we see a reverse of the immagration here
if many of them involved and they lose their house we could see them heading for dover and trying to get on a lorry bound for france
the problem being they would set up camps in dover
the worst nightmare ?

i find it disturbing that it is assumed that if someone is rioting that they are automatically council tenants, i have heard this assumption made from senior commentators that should know better.
ron, i think you will find that most of the looting has come from home grown brits, i doubt that immigrants have been heavily involved.

what a strange assumption
So the rioters were French were they?
I wondered what the strange garlicky smell pervading parts of London was - knew it wasnt tear gas as plod didnt use it - well now I know

I think what Ron meant was instead of immigrants jumping on lorries to come here from France, they will be doing the complete opposite and try to leave.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

So, we have jumped to any number of assumptions....? Those scumbag rioters were made up of many many different backgrounds and roots. They had only a couple of things in common: greed and a total lack of shame. And that lack of shame is probably what we need to examine.
I think the implication is that IF they are council tenants they would lose their tenancy but can you see it happening? They will only have to whinge about their human rights and they'll probably be upgraded.

In the first case of its kind, Daniel Sartain-Clarke, 18, and his mother have been served with an eviction notice as council bosses seek to turf them out of their £225,000 taxpayer-subsidised flat, right. Sartain-Clarke with his girlfriend, is charged with violent disorder and attempting to steal electronic goods from the Currys store at Clapham Junction, on Monday

The leader of Wandsworth Council, when challenged about making someone homeless, pointed out that in fact they were responsible for finding their own housing and that the consequences of their behaviour was in their own hands. Hurrah.

I agree Bern.
These people (should) know there are consequences and this is one of them. Pleased to see Marek's posting too.
They have made themselves homeless - that's a good punishment.

The fact that they made themselves homeless means that the Council has no re-housing obligations so they are on their own. Good.
I read in the paper some pathetic h parents whinging about not being responsible for how their children behaved. Rubbish. They failed as parents to instil decent values into their children. Its time people learned to take responsibility for themselves.

Couldn't agree more Barry. Too many parents don't give any guidance whatsoever and wonder why their kids turn out like they do.

What would happen if the parents of a rioter - or a rioter her- or himself - were to own their own home?
Then it wouldnt apply

If they own their own home they almost certainly have a job, which they would probably lose, putting their home at risk of repossession.

I hope we don't lose sight, while we are quite rightly acknowledging parents roles in things, of the role of the community as well. We all benefit from well behaved kids and the trades and professions that they follow, and have a part to play in forming those individuals.

There was a case on TV were the 14 yr old child turned up in court unescorted by parents. The Magistrates quite rightly asked as to the whereabouts of the parents and the mother was sent for before the child was sentenced. Just about sums it all up really.

They do what they do in the rest of the world...get off their arses ..find a job and rent what they can afford. The family I related to above were living in a £225k flat in the Elephant and Castle.
