19:2167069Howard I do not know,I am not a Town Councillor and I can guess who the names are and come up with some that have been mentioned on here,I do not know what happened at the meeting as I wasnt there and havent heard what went on,we do not sit around having meetings to discuss what the various Cllrs have said.
I have never been told how to vote, sorry that is not true I was told to vote for a Certain Mayor 7 years ago because he had done a deal with the Indies!

20:5467073thanks for info john, however it seems to be about political groups, still no names are mentioned.
to my mind the title should be bestowed on someone not linked to politics, someone like mr sutton, mr hollingsbee or even our own nerry tunn are more fitting.

23:3067109All councillors are in favour of the Freeman, no politics involved, there is no secrecy involved.

00:0067111Had you been there John you would have seen that all the voting, by councillors of all parties and groupings, was done was done on each individuals own feelings. There was no bloc voting.
Until such time as the awards are decided it would be unfair to name those nominated both to the council and to them. As a previous resolution was made that only two freemen should be awarded in any year there will be one left out of this years who, if nominated again, could well get the award next year. Far better to to celebrate the achievements of those awarded the status than to cause embaressment or upset by dwelling on who was left out.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

00:0767114Thanks for the clarification Chris, but why two? Surely one per annum is sufficient?

18:4267184I think the feeling was that after fighting so long for the right to award the status it would be nice to speed up the process a bit.

I'd support that Roger; Terry has worked tirelessly over many years - look at all those years at the hospital radio.
Maybe an MBE too.

Talking of freemen of the town, you will be pleased to hear that Jack Woolford who has been in hospital since November is now out and about. He has moved into St Mary's in Dieu Stone Lane and came in for lunch today. He will be 94 next month.

That's great news Peter - thank you.
It did at one time appear that he wouldn't get better, but so glad he is.
Quite a feat getting down those stairs at his age too. Dieu Stone Lane is not to far from you, maybe he'll be able to come down more often. Well done Jack.

Yes Jack is a little frail these days .He sat next to me at Mayor Making .He insisted on standing when called to do so with a little bit of help from mysef and Bob Tant he managed to get to his feet .
