only a few days left for people to nominate a new freemen of dover.
the criteria set by the town council is that "persons of distinction who have rendered eminent services to the borough".
get your skates on chaps/chapesses, you have to collect a form from the town council office complete and return it by 5 pm friday the 23rd july.
who do we nominate?
i will start the ball rolling, sir bob goldfield and mr james godden.
did i hear victor being mentioned?
Joni Mitchell Free man in Paris Lyrics:
"The way I see it," he said
"You just can't win it...
Everybody's in it for their own gain
You can't please 'em all
There's always somebody calling you down
I do my best
And I do good business
There's a lot of people asking for my time
They're trying to get ahead
They're trying to be a good friend of mine
I was a free man in Paris
I felt unfettered and alive
There was nobody calling me up for favors
And no one's future to decide
You know I'd go back there tomorrow
But for the work I've taken on
Stoking the star maker machinery
Behind the popular song
I deal in dreamers
And telephone screamers
Lately I wonder what I do it for
If l had my way
I'd just walk through those doors
And wander
Down the Champs Elysees
Going cafe to cabaret
Thinking how I'll feel when I find
That very good friend of mine
I was a free man in Paris
I felt unfettered and alive
Nobody was calling me up for favors
No one's future to decide
You know I'd go back there tomorrow
But for the work I've taken on
Stoking the star maker machinery
Behind the popular song."

good point multicoloured, whilst on the subject of literary prowess from dovorians how about bob hollingsbee?
Freemen? This will cause uproar. What DTC really mean is Freepersons surely?
I agree with Ken re Terry Sutton, but the criteria given means I will actually nominate a well known Indie.

et back to the thread please?
how about terry nunn for services to the classics and sarcasm, paulb for services to something or other, posh barry for his committment to slaughtering our indigenous wildlife, brian for his desire to handing over our sovereignty to foreigners, susan for her selfless devotion to milliners, myself for plagiarising the great wits over the years.
unnacustomed as i am to making speeches etc etc.

12:2766908Out of interest, from what Howard mentioned a while ago on the front page someone has been made a freeman. But who? I've seen no mention of it.
BTW Spotted Jack Woolford in Blakes on Saturday, now he's a candidate.

15:0766921I understand that as Vic said it was put back for 6 months, probably because they got Sids nominations all indies,I understood it was to be non political so it is funny why Sid wants to nominate people from his Indies group/party.
I can think of lots of people who should be nominated some political including someone who stood for the Tories and the rest not sure if they have any political bias, otherwise it gets stupid.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
