REFURBISHMENT OF MARKET SQUARE FOUNTAIN, DOVER
It was agreed:
(a) That the refurbishment of the water feature in the Market Square, Dover, as described as Option 4 of the report, be approved.
(b) That the refurbishment project be brought forward and progressed in a timely manner.
(c) That, until works commence in earnest and where circumstances permit, and following the usual winter shutdown period, the existing fountain be switched on.
(d) That the flower planters in the Market Square be re-planted to a high standard and in a timely manner in preparation for the Olympic and Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
(e) That the inclusion of the project within the Medium-Term Capital Plan be approved. - 3 March 2012 14:02157232we were told different to that!!
still it is good to hear about the fountain staying and the planters being replanted to a high standard.

"With the addition of the big screen, the Market Square now hosts events on a regular basis, during which the fountain has been fenced in for safety and practical reasons. The proposals before Cabinet will deliver a more modern water
feature which celebrates the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, costs less to maintain and run, and does not
have to be covered during events." - 3 March 2012 21:14157330all seems a bit contradictory ray, the fountain normally opens early may yet they reckon the new feature will be ready soon after.
i am left wondering whether a contract has been signed for company to do the installation as what with these 2 major events coming up other towns will be planning the same. - 3 March 2012 21:32157337I've found the original report now, from about page 146 here.

Option 1 remove completely and pave
Option 2 do nothing
Option 3 ground level bubblers as Folkestone
Option 4 adapt present to give a water feature that can be switched off on a raised plinth - not a play feature
There's a bit of a difference between what is said in the report and what is said in the minutes as to when it can start or be completed.
