I was always under the impression that the Planning Department decided yes or no and expected the councillors to go along with them at the meetings. Thank goodness the PD are deemed to be wrong at times.

ray;
im sure cllrs wil/can add to your points
but a good imput from you, its not all about polanning applications being
refused/passed
because of the backward looking planning sometimes they get no further than the many site meetings/.= talks
its about trying to get the planning dept to have a positive outlook

Marek and Keith, Vic has attended Lydden parish council meetings, that's a matter of public record in the minutes, it's for him to give any more details.
Now I'm off to the pond and the pub, it's a hard job but someone has to do it

I feel a march and a protest coming on, but then I am Irish. Seriously - we are so clearly let down by the reps and Dover deserves so much better all round. What shall we do? Keep "complaining"? Keep the pressure up? And what has that achieved so far? Answers on the back of a postage stamp please........

I think this is the fountain tread .More news Im advised that when big events are screened there is a danger of crowds falling into the fountain and damaging the arms which are costly to replace.
Now this may seem far fetched but just look at the behaviour of some of the people who frequent that end of town .It only takes one to think its a laugh to cool off in the fountain.I prefer to have the box round it not the fencing .

there are bigger crowds in market square when a cruise liner is in than during a big screen event.
is there any reason why it is not working now?

The whole point of a fountain is to have the water playing, turned off or fenced most of the time why bother to have it in the first place. It must cost money to put up and remove the fence so that money could be used keeping the area looking nice.
Does it really matter if some idiot decides they want to cool off in the water, what is good enough for Trafalgar Square should be good enough in Dover.

Jan,
I pointed out if an idiot you words were to fall in they could cause damage to the arms of the structure which is costly .
Howard are they not screening the golf ??

How come Trafalgar Sq that attracts 1000's of tourists and drunks each year appears to remain open but Dover with only a large tap in the square has to close so often.
I wonder how much it costs to box or fence off the fountain then re-open so many times each year?.

The arm structure should not be that fragile given the fountains location, health and safety etc. Why do they not install a strong wire grid just under the water surface similar to those used with garden ponds.

Its the arms Jan.If you knock them when falling into the water they could be damaged .I cant remember how many there are .Howard will know .It gives the cobweb effect
Perhaps, then, a fountain fit for purpose would be an investment?
