i am constantly amazed by the vast quantity of rubbish generated by the residents of the folkestone road, totally out of proportion to the number of people.

this is what greets visitors who have arrived by train and are walking into town.

When you consider that most of it is packaging from food and products then they obviously have a lot of money to spend.
It's a right flaming eyesore and something needs doing about it.
t was not like this last year all. So something has gone seriously wrong!

i didn't show the beautifully renovated "dover hotel" which is now going back to rack and ruin as it is too depressing.
industrial size waste containers continually overflowing and broken furniture adorning the front, while the residents sit outside on the steps apparently admiring their handiwork.

Gawd!!!!! This is absolutely frightful. Surely the powers that be will act on this and soon. Something must be done about this

Those pictures are absolutely disgusting.
This is one of the main roads into town what a terrible impression this must give to any visitor.

the funny(or not) thing is that my road that leads onto that mayhem never ever has a bin or bag on the pavement at any time, despite the frontages being much smaller.
could it be that it is because most people in my road are of a certain age and most have been born and brought up locally and show an interest in their surroundings?
come collection day bins and bags are placed at the front gate(just inside) to await collection.
if people in their eighties can get the hang of the system then surely the young have no excuse.

Seeing your pictures there Howard I despair, I feel the likes of myself and other councillors have just been banging our heads against a brick wall.
There is no improvement anywhere from what I can see, having spoken to relevant people at district, there still seems to be no education to the public from the contractors or waste services.

not sure about that jan, don't think the council/veolia are really to blame.
the bins are ugly but some of our residents are worse, i feel a certain sympathy with waste services and councillors like yourself, roger and gigolo john who have to take the brunt of the complaints.
philip here is totally against them but does not take it out on his neighbours, just takes it to the tip.

there are a few issues here;
1; the bins look unsightly
2; why have these bags suddenly appeared what are our cllrs/council doing about it

Writing and sending photos Keith.
Constant contact with waste services and other departments.
A couple of black bags (that shouldn't be there anyway) soon grows into lots of black bags as other people then dump their's there.
The old Boston Guest House seems to have people living there who are determined to make an eyesore of where they live. The trouble is that it is encouraging others to be as bad.
Unless prosecutions are made/fines issued and court proceedings started, they'll just carry on. It needs stopping. If I knew who owns the house(s), I'd send the phtos to him/them.

Did these properties have this amount of rubbish piled outside prior to the new bins if not why is there so much now????
How many of the problem houses have foreigners in them that have no real idea of how the new system works. If this is the case they should have the information given to them in their own language and then threatened with legal action if they do not obey the rules.

JAN;
I'm totaly with you on this one, with regard to the ex boston guest house, i was with the ex owners only 2 days ago on site and they took pride in the area when they ran the guest house, now over 70 they passed the site and were horrified at what they saw.
the ex owners said they had to sell due to custom falling and of course they were getting older, they sold to an english person, who then soon after sold it on to a non english person.
not that that matters, but what does matter is the owner has allowed this to fall into such a mess, and yes the occupants are non english, and should be told in there own launguage the system and if they don't follow it they fines or other action must quickly follow.

We already spend far too much taxpayers' money on translating stuff like that. No other nation on earth does it. If they want to live here, let them learn English.

I think peter as a one off migrant helpline or such a body should tell them the facts
then if nothing changes fines should commence

I'm not sure if the accummulation of rubbish has come about since the wheelie bins were introduced, or since those people moved in Jan.
Most if not all, of the properties have "foreigners" living there and I'm sure they do know what they should be doing. As far as I am aware, they have been notified and so have the landlords, so there's no excuse.
Legal action is now being taken Jan. It'll be interesting to see if or how they pay their fines - out of their benefit payments ?

migrant helpline told me that they explain everything clearly to incomers and update them on any changes that come into force.
the old boston guest house was always immaculate and well run, i can imagine the former owners being horrified.
good to hear that action is being taken by d.d.c.

Taking action, and getting action are totaly different.
yes ok we can accept these people probably know the rights and wrongs of putting bags out, but you dont want to get to court and lose because you hadnt expained it.
im all for legal action, but one that will win to lose would make the issue an even bigger problem

ignorance of the law is no defence keith, besides they only have to look around and see that the vast majority keep their rubbish on their property.
