First of the 2012 cruise ships

Calais beach certainly looked good in a beam of sunlight yesterday and it was interesting to see the Seafrance ships over there waiting to go into service once again.
There will be no cruise ships in now until Thursday when we will see the Saga Ruby TR, and the Black Watch TR, once again. Then on Saturday 23rd we will have the Ryndam TR.
We have two ships in on Sunday 24th, hopefully the Costa neoRomantica TR+ PoC (twice abandoned on the 8th &16th of this month) and the Black Watch TR.
Two more ships in on Wednesday, the Braemar TR, and the Athena - Embark Only.
Two more on Thursday for Saga, Quest for Adventure TR, and Sapphire TR.
Saturday, the Ryndam TR, with no ship on Sunday July1

- 19 June 2012 16:46178979As its a small quiet period for cruise liners gives us the chance to add a few extra pictures of shipping in and around the harbour from both today and last evening...
Top shot shows the UKBorder Agency making their presence felt last evening to the west of the harbour by Shakespeare Beach way. They lurked about there in the evening sun for several hours. Must be dull for the crew just hanging about..but interesting for us of course. Thats an unusual dome in the foreground inside the harbour parimeter but not sure what its used for.
Busy shipping lanes a few minutes ago above. In post 320 you can see the 'grain silo' at Calais Harbour up close...here it is featured again to the right of picture but this time all the way from Dover

Yes the two ships are the Saga Sapphire and the Quest for Adventure ( yellow funnel )..two that look delightfully old fashioned...gin rummy with the Pimms anyone!?

Don't forget the income that is derived from port dues, and local suppliers who replenish the ships each time they "turn around" in Dover for their next cruise. The crew from these ships also spend a lot of money in the town.

- 29 June 2012 07:49180481The blue funnelled Saga Sapphire stayed overnight and moved from the the near berth in Howards pix above to the one where the yellow funnel (Quest for Adventure) is shown. As Brian said that one moved away early in the day. Yes indeed Kevin thanks for that information as it is something often overlooked...stock replenishment. Dover can certainly use the business.
Nothing new in so far today, but the sea is a gorgeous spruce blue/green right now with long range visibility..looking good here in Dover.

- 1 July 2012 16:06180921Tomorrow we see the Costa neoRomanticia TR+PoC arrive back in Dover then on Tuesday 3rd July we have two ships, the Nautica TR and the Ocean Princess TR.
No ship day on Wedsnesday but another two arrive on Thursday 5th, the Saga Ruby TR and the Braemar TR. Another no ship day on Friday but Saturday brings two ships again, the Ryndam TR and the Black Watch TR. We end the week on Sunday 8th with the lovely Sun Princess TR.
We begin the next week with a no ship day on Monday 9th but on Tuesday we have the returning Costa neoRomantica TR+PoC, the Sapphire TR on Wedsnesday 11th and the Saga Ruby TR again on Thursday 12th.
A no ship day on Friday but on Saturday 14th we see the Costa Allegra PoC arrive for the first time this season. There will be no ships on the Sunday or Monday.
