Another reason why, with increased competition from other ports, cruise operators may well turn their back on Dover.

Locally, we can't do much about the traffic, although it can depend on what causes the hold-ups, but we can do something about how we welcome the cruise-passengers.
Each time I've been down to the Cruise Welcome Desk, there has only been one person there (and one person on the currency exchange) and a long queue of frustrated cruise passengers.
There should be at least two people there, possibly 3, with one of them talking to those in the queue about information on what to see and how to get there - promoting Dover sites first if possible.
I understood that a lot of the determining factor about which port to call in to, is two fold:
1 for the actual cost of berthing and the facilities and abilities to load on whatever is required;
2 is more about what is close- by to take a day-excursion to (London, Leeds Castle, Canterbury etc.), more than what is in the actual port/town the ship has called in to.
As we all know , the cruise companies make a lot of money on their excursions and would prefer their passengers not to go in to the local town, so they don't give much if any information about it, on board ship.
From the cruise-companies point of view, Dover is just a Port of call for London, not for people to discover what's here - so you are right Kevin, with increased competition from other Ports, we really must try harder - which is where the Town-Team Manager/Co-ordinator comes in.

Can just make out todays arrival, Ocean Princess, in the drizzle. P&O are dressed overall for the Jubilee.

Why is the Ocean Princess called the Pride of Burgundy, Ed? I'm just asking.

Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

Todays arrival, Discovery, with bunker barge in attendance.
Have digitally enhanced this one as yesterdays photo showing the Pride of Burgundy in the foreground had the Ocean Princess over on the Admiralty Pier but she was almost invisible in the drizzle.

This is the bunker barge in the above picture, leaving Dover later.
She is the LS Christine and is the one presently used to bunker the DFDS ferries in Dunkerque West at the weekends.

Another striking visitor for Dover.
Just noticed that the Quest for Adventure has now joined the one pictured above.

Here's a bit of choccy box of the Marina from last year. Her design is from the Norwegian architect Petter Yran, as is the other ship in the picture, Le Diamant, which served as an accomodation ship for the Golf Open. He is also responsible for the lovely little Seabourn ships.
It's a bit early to remind you but, after a few year's absence, the Windsurf is returning on July 21st. She usually puts on a bit of a show when she sails across the bay with her computer-controlled neoprene sails and Aaron Copeland fanfares blasting over the harbour.
