"Sophie White, Director of Infrastructure Grant at Homes England, said: “Our role as the Government’s housing agency is to work with partners like Dover District Council to build new homes for the people who need them most. We’re pleased that funding through the Housing Infrastructure Fund will help the council to build infrastructure which will provide sustainable travel links to support those new communities in the future.”
What a load of tosh but that is the sort of comment we are now expected to believe. How many of those new homes will be rental or even affordable for those on a low income?

Shame they cannot provide money for the older communities bus services in the future
There is already a bus service from Aycliffe to Whitfield

Clearly a genuine enough smile to impress you, Reggie. Why doesn't that surprise me?

More to the point, what do we think David Frazier (Kent County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport) is on, given that he said: “I am delighted that work is beginning on Dover Fastrack, which will bring real improvements to the town. KCC’s Fastrack service in Kent Thameside demonstrates how a self-sustaining bus service can work and priority given to buses using this route, ensuring that we incentivise sustainable transport and in turn promoting the positive impact that this has on our environment"?
I'll have to dig out the Fastrack map again, because I can't get my head around why the spade and sign are where they are.

The plan is to name it Mercury Way- “in reference to commerce, communication and travellers which would be appropriate for a road that will provide a quick link between Whitfield and Dover”.
I’m speechless!!

Another name for Mercury is Quicksilver which is appropriate when you think how fast councils, the government and their quangos like to waste our taxes.

I'm just speechless that they could have a photo call and spin it to look like a success before it's even started or the houses that it's going to serve are finished! I was surprised Elphicke wasn't there to rave about how wonderful it will be to see Fast-Track serving the people of Dover, oh sorry, my mistake, the people of new unfinished as yet, Whitfield.
Always great to publish bad news or stories that they don't want to get major coverage on when there is something more important going on in the world. Shameful how politics work.....

With bus cutbacks
Maybe this could have been an opportunity to look at bus services

Unfortunately what isn’t really publicised is that the money for the housing at Connaught Barracks is dependent upon the delivery of this bus infrastructure- no bus route, no money from Homes England for the housing. The money for the Fastrack couldn’t be diverted to subsidise existing routes. If you don’t live near this new route your bus route can be reduced but the Government want to force us in rural communities out of our cars. It’s nonsensical. I like living in a rural area, I like my car, I’ve never much enjoyed public transport. I don’t want an electric car. Living in an area with no mains gas and totally reliant upon electricity, an electric car would be of little use in a prolonged power outage as recently experienced in some neighbouring villages.

Perhaps the only point in its favour, then, is that it will link the castle with the railway station - bearing in mind the extra visitors to the town and castle that the proposed blue plaque on Castle Hill House will encourage, according to its impact statement and evaluation.

Linking the castle to the railway station doesn’t require carving up the countryside and pushing through an unnecessary road. I’m still not sure how it’s meant to be fast!

True, and I spoke in jest! Mind you, there was a time when (you might say) all roads lead to Guston, rather than to Deal:

There’s also going to be a public exhibition at both Whitfield and Guston village halls - Guston PC had to request this it wasn’t automatic.
