15:2475607Dear Mrs Nicholas, first i am not a miserable man well only so far as to live in a town were its councilors think they are better than every one else and obviously criticism hits a raw nerve, I did not mention any councilors by name and as i said it was the way I see it, of cause there will be those who don't like what people say but until you rule this Country and have us all shot, I will say what I feel and its what I feel, You may be good at your job so will many more people in this town but they don't go round calling people Miserable because of something they said. I will Apologize if I offended you in any way, but People must be allowed to say what is on there minds and as a person who as lived in Dover all his life I have seen many changes and not always for the best of the towns People.

16:1875615You are very wise Bern .I have been outside trying once more to remove a hedge .I just loved using the saw as I cut the larger branches down the small ones.I attacked with smaller shears and went snio snip .Take that take take that .Its alright Howard Alan was not in view .
Bern yes Im afraid local reps will take the backlash of the governments cuts .You could work your socks off but will still be under attack .

17:2075627If Dover is the most miserable town in the county why does everyone flock here from other places to live. I'll wager that 50% of people on this forum are not from Dover and that includes me.
It is one of the most friendly places to live that I have come across and I have been about a bit.
Our East European friends seem to like it as well, there seems to be more and more arriving.

17:3075630As with any occupation you get good and bad councillors, most do a good job that I would not want.
Back to topic

. Why are we the most miserable town? Go to any town and some will have the miseries we are no different, going by my customers we get very little moaning about the town, only some of those in it.

17:4275632alec is right, i have said many times that i have never lived in a friendlier place than dover.
the question was about being happy though, still o.k. there, judging by the people i talk to in the town on a daily basis.
not sure about the 50% figure though, off the top of my head the immigrants on this forum are me(east london), paulb and colette(ireland and london), posh barry(london of course), jimmy long(glasgow), marek and alec(both manchester), victor(an unnamed planet), cannot think of anymore at present.

We moved to this area of Kent in the late 1960's moving to Dover nearly 40 years ago, oh my, is it that long ago how time flies

18:1475638Jeanette is from Luton....someone had to be & if anyone mentions Lorraine Chase & they're dead men walking!
I've had the pleasure of meeting a lot more tourists than I normally would have done this year & all of those have commented on what a lovely, welcoming, helpful bunch we are! Pat yourselves on the back everyone.....the miserable thing is obviously a load of rollocks! Every town is going to have it's own miserable people, wacko's & park alcoholics & I'm sure we haven't got anymore of the forementioned than any other town.
I'm just sorry I was such a miserable cow the day they surveyed me!!

I know a million ways to always pick the wrong thing to say

18:2775641Yup Howard, I put my hands up to being an economic refugee.
Usual story. Came down here to take your jobs, sleep with your women, drink your beer etc. etc
Seems to be working so far.....

18:5875649I'm from St.Albans (in Hertfordshire) and Jean was born in Barnet - also Hertfordshire, so we're not Dovorians.
We moved here to buy a guest house and loved it - I still do, even though I've been shafted more times than I care to remember - always bouncing back, until this last time.

19:2675656Wonder how them numpties at kmfm (in my totally unscientific survey the worst most turgid radio station to air in Kent) came up with this piece of tosh?
Maybe they talked to the day drinkers in the park? or the rough sleepers on the seafront? or the junkies in the town centre?
They certainly did not talk to me or any of you happy cheerful people
Oh and I am from Edinburgh by way of south Bucks, Manor Park in the East End, Chelmsford, Islington and Bermondsey - cam here because despite the apparent inability of the DDC to organise the proverbial it is a town with huge potential and mostly decent caring people

19:2775658Dover Is a lovely town, and although like many towns it has its problems, I think Dover's seafront is lovely.
We all get frustrated at times, but It has to be said there are councillors from all the parties working hard for Dover

20:3275676We chose to live here after living in London, Buckinghamshire, Ireland, Wiltshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and a variety of smaller places. We were warned against Dover but fell in love with it from the first sight. And we still love it. Dover Rocks!!!!!
