Some fair criticisms here but Jamie is new and seems to be getting stuck into the job. Any paper is only as good as the people who make it. Terry Sutton was old school and is a great role model for any would-be local journalist.

And of course terry would never have criticised a Tory government
So carry on james ,doing a good job

I,ve read the Express every week since i was 14.I was always interested in what was what around Dover. When i moved from home at 18 i started to buy my own copy.I,m 50 now so i think i,ve a pretty good idea of how the paper has gone over the years. As said, many local events, some important ones, dont get a mention. An example,---a few months ago a very good friend of mine,a local builder who has lived in Dover all his life got 12 years in prison for beating a drug addict for breaking into his house and stealing property. The drug addict who is barred from most shops in town and has countless offences against him,as far as i know was not punished in court. My friend was handed a heavy sentence because his attack was pre meditated. If he had caught him in the act, then maybe things would have been different.Coming back to the Express,an important news event like this was not mentioned.I read about it on the Kentonline news as i have with many Dover events. The Express really needs shaping up,not excuses.

Reg
We may differ here,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Local papers which promote being part of the community, should be that,
We see quite the opposite.
Now, I have no problem if they wish to ridicule, but the editor should realise he no longer works for the Sun, and reporting
should reflect local communities.
A number of posters have given views on the express and it's shortfalls, I could give a lot more
But I think its all been highlighted above.
As for Jamie I don't know the guy so cant comment, I can only go by what the express produces

A reporter on the Express compromised me, looking at the quality of work they produce I'd guess they've run out of sources and stories

I do not think anyone on here has criticised Jamie.
We have been having a go at the paper in general and it's policy of ignoring what is happening in the town that it is supposed to represent.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Things change and we have to move with them.
The Express is your paper, so should reflect what goes on in your community but instead of moaning after something has not been reported on, why not try reporting it to the Express before it occurs?
Perhaps an "Inform the Express" thread should be started on this forum?

not necessary gary, jamie is a full member and normally looks in here on a daily basis but circumstances at the office with a lack of staff numbers has caused the recent problems.
taking things a step further whenever i tune into meridian news they ask viewers to contact them with stories it is the way of the world. they have too big an area to cover.
