Hi Terry
Just a quick reply to your first post. I have just come back from Bruges and not seen the paper yet. I didn't send the letters page so can't answer about the Dubris item until I have seen it. It is quite correct that people can do "bad" things and then change and that all (other than the worst kind of person) deserve a second chance. However, as I said I can't really comment until I have read it.
In reply to Howard - ?
Some posts seem to show people think we target individuals. I don't agree with this, many stories are about achievements or issues that affect many people such as school staff redundancies, the recent strike, the port etc
If you would like to give me an example of someone unfairly targeted while I have been at work I will reply to it

kathy seems to think i have accused her of targeting individuals, not sure why though.
I wonder if you have had time to read the article yet Kathy ?
I am unclear: is Kathy saying that flagging up some positives makes it ok to print some crap?

No I didn't send Dubris and do not know which lady it applies to
Keith - can't answer because too much of a generalization, no specifics.
Howard, the ? was about your comment not about you particularly accusing me of anything
Sarah, I've read it, didn't send it as I was in Beruges so don't know who it applies to
Bern you are not unclear and know perfectly well that is not what I said. I made a point that we publish about achievements or issues. Give me an example of an article where someone has been unfairly targeted (obviously not while I have been on holiday as that is out of my control) as I am not sure which crap you are referring to
I do not know perfectly well that is not what you said, Kathy, as it is a potential meaning to your post . But don't leap into defensive mode, there is no need. The fact is many people have been burned by journalists and there is a casual cultural acceptance of the amorality of some media people. Many journalists do fabulous stuff, flagging important matters and taking personal risks to acquire information and use it properly. They do not outweigh or excuse the scumsuckers. I will not be giving you any examples of articles as I have not bought the the paper recently because of this issue, but when I did buy it and when I did raise a few things it was quickly apparent that there was no point, and possibly even less than no point. I am sure it is not your fault, so don't take too much offence (some is probably required as you are in the same tainted profession as the other bottomfeeders, albeit without their tint).
What I would like to see - and this is not related at all to our local papers - is some proper shame from the NoW and its parasites. There has been a lot of hot air and some token hand wringing but no visible proper tangible shame.
Hi Kathy thanks for replying I am not trying to be obtuse but the fact that its not clear who it applies to is exactly the point I was making , it could be any woman who works in any Bakery in Dover ? In my opinion veiled innuendo is inappropriate .If there is a public intrest issue state it clearly , dont hint and stand by the facts rather than hide behind half stories .

I agree actually Sarah. What I was saying is that I was on holiday and so not aware of it.
Bern, not being defensive simply giving my view in the same way as you are and actually I think there are certain people at NOTW that need to acknowledge that tapping the phones of murder victims/families is clearly disgusting but not sure 200 people deserved to lose their jobs to keep those others safe
Thanks Kathy , now you are aware of it and have read it what do you think of it ?

That last post reminds me, Sarah, I've got to go to Morisons, to the bakery there, to get some Cornish slices for tonight!

So glad to have been of help

Being on holiday does not absolve editors from accountability for things happening on their watch, as Rebekah Wade/Brooks will shortly find out.
Not that this storm in a teacup is in the same league of course.

That is a straight answer kathy , thank you . I do hope you had a good break

Actually Peter I am the news editor not the editor and I am not trying to absolve myself of accountability. In my opinion the staff at the DE work hard and always try to do their best. There will be times when mistakes are made and if that mistake is mine or one I should have spotted I will hold my hands up as I have done a couple of times on this forum

I know if I worked in a bakery I would be furious and want something done about what would be a slur on my and my fellow workers' character.
The item was totally unnecessary tittle tattle, with no facts and could even have been completely made up for all we know.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
