Or perhaps not enough doctors, Bern?
I'm an optimist. But I'm an optimist who takes my raincoat - Harold Wilson
Im thinking its the reason as Ians posting no 4 .
#21 - recruiting sufficient GPs would - or should - form part of the business plan, Peter. There is, in fact, no genuine shortage of doctors. There may be a shortage of doctors who can 1) speak enough English, 2)are willing to work odd hours like they used to and the rest of us have to, 3)will join a practice. The point is, to make it more attractive as a business.
Or maybe they are just to greedy to say no more patients ......

they do get allocated patients that they may have refused.
Reminder: it is a Health Service. There may be people in crisis or who are vulnerable or challenging needing care and support. It is the nature of the beast. Those docs who don't want that should head off into Private Practice.
Howard get your headache tablets ready !
http://rcgp-innovait.oxfordjournals.org/content/1/2/134.full As most NHS services are , its a complicated buisiness !
Oh Sarah, that made me laugh out loud!! I am lurching towards the end of a reprovision programme for a large organisation in the public sector which has been managed in partnership with another monolith, and the service level agreements and contracts have been, shall we say, a challenge! Never an easy pathway..............
I find smilling brightly whilst speaking very very fast in an efficent and slightly unhinged way gets me through most of those processes , mainly because I scare people

I can empathise........I also employ quite a bit of spectacles work which seems to intimidate nicely.....
I hope we never end up in the same meeting , we may get told off by the grown ups
I think we can handle that....

My mother went today to the health centre to make an appointment, and the appointment is for coming Monday with a half-hour slot. Considering that weekends they're closed, it's good service.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with our medical service in Dover, nothing to complain about, and the service is excellent!

I'm really pleased this has been brought up as an issue. I only discovered the change by accident when I rang to make an enquiry about something. It would have been nice to have received a letter or some kind of communication about the change. Even their website is still giving out of date information.

Yes, Claire, I completely agree with you. We too only found out by chance about the new system at Pencester.
The receptionist told us that they are now running 2 practices and that the doctors are all working at both, so only at Pencester part of the time.
Sounds like money grabbing as they get paid by the number of patients they have...
