Brian.
Are you sure it is not political.
I lay a bet, this was another pathetic attempt, at political playground bashing, from one of the local paper protagonists.
And I am told it goes beyond the football club, other youth groups are going to be affected as well.

sounds more than that martin, why would anyone go hunting around for information where no-one appears to benefit but others end up losing money.

Quote from the College of Arms website:
"The Court of Chivalry has had jurisdiction over cases of misuse of arms since the 14th century. It is a civil court, with the Earl Marshal as the sole judge from 1521. The best known medieval action was Scrope v Grosvenor (1385-1390), in which Sir Richard le Scrope was held to have a prior claim to the simple arms azure a bend or. The most recent case was Manchester Corporation v Manchester Palace of Varieties (1954), when a theatre was successfully sued for illegal display of the arms belonging to the corporation."
As a civil court has no power to dispense criminal justice the town council and FC are not going to be fined. Only the rightful owner of the arms can sue for misuse but as the rightful owner is defunct, what's the problem?

Yes Peter, perhaps Deal can simply adopt this coat of arms as a Logo?

So who is the rightful owner Peter?
As a former Charter Trustee of Deal can I exercise that right?
Not that I would, if permissable.
I am intrigued as everybody is about who asked the question.
It is so obsure that a lot of research most have been undertaken.

I have no idea Paul, there was a lot of bitterness when the previous chairman and directors of the football club lost control and were replaced. The focus seems to be on the football club and they are big losers in this, so perhaps......

Deal town or any of the clubs needs to do nothing, they can carry on as they are, there is no one left living that can pull them over the coals about this, and even if there was it would cost so much in time and money ,and they still might not win,and if that happen they would have to pay all costs, end of story.

If the owner of the arms (Borough of Deal) is defunct, any rights to the arms must also be extinct. The town council could of course commission a fresh coat of arms at great expense to the taxpayer, unless some local worthy wanted to fund it. It's my understanding that arms granted to a civic or commercial organisation cannot pass to its successors in title.
In short, there is no criminal offence committed and as the only body against whom a civil tort could be committed no longer exists, Deal organisations ought to be able to use the old arms with total impunity even though it is technically unlawful.

More likely someone with a grudge against Deal Town Council who has too much time on their petty and silly little mind.

I do hope that Deal Town Council doesn't was a penny on this nonsense. What is the likely outcome if the don't change anything? Legal action by the College of Arms? I don't think so. Ignore it and move on...
