Dover District Council is seeking views on the proposed route of the Dover Fastrack, a rapid bus transit system connecting Whitfield with Dover town centre and Dover Priory railway station.

Renamed with £15.8 from HOUSING budget to blow!
FFS go for autonomous vehicles and scrap the Bifrost over the A2.
Meanwhile, put it out for 'consultation' (and exactly how many consulted know anything about transport infrastructure) and then do something both expensive and stupid (though useful to a certain property development company who have the option on land at Whitfield!)
As ever, DDC behind the curve.

Dover is an ideal place for trying out autonomous vehicles. Small area. Hills. Port. Shopping. Tourist attractions. It presses all the buttons.
Could be an ideal area for experimentation.
The rest of the world is getting on with this. See Boston:-

Loads of companies with loads of money to actually INVEST in a district. Seriously. Looking for a council who has the foresight to allow their district to be used.
I brought this up with Councillors and Council Officers years ago.
They just don't have the bandwidth.
Enjoy your multi million pound restricted bridge (busses, horses, pedestrians and cyclists only) next to Whitfield Tesco (they've been keeping this plot vacant for YEARS).
As ever 'spending' other people's money).
Doubles and trebles all round from the Snargate Street Mafia.

Give me a couple of rusty buses over a 'partnership' with the WEF any day. But then I'd rather we were digging up roads rather than building more of them in any case.

What a waste of money .One minute DDC are claiming they may have to sell off assets and cuts made then they proceed with this ridiculous idea .How long does it take to get from Dover to Whitfield by car,bus or taxi even a cycle ?Some where there is a person sitting in a posh office rubbing their hands with glee saying S,,,,,,rs .Once again being led like a donkey by the nose .
St James never turned out like the original idea .Certain Councillors pointed this out .Why not invest in our History .How long before Councillors invest in the Roman House start the dialogue .
What consultation you never get the real view.

With decent transport you do not 'need' more roads. Most cars spend 95%+ of time parked up and depreciating in price.
We have the technology to deliver transport a lot cheaper and more efficiently.
ZipCar in London. Parked round the corner. £10 an hour.
IF the buggers just concentrate on emptying bins there's an outside chance they might provide a service.
WHEN they start having big ideas we are screwed.

As the world embraces remote working, DDC invest in commuting.
Honestly, you couldn't make it up!

They have turned up with a fork, not realising they are now in a world of soup!
(Meanwhile DHB have just announced plan 'z' to save the failing DWDR (new marina empty, no sign of retail overlooking, freight berths hardly used) - Dover as a Freeport!
Backed by DDC so obviously doomed!

Strange that they would asking our opinion on the route when they have already chosen it and started work on it!

Though hardly surprising! It's what they do. Personally I think public consultation is a waste of time. Never actually known it to be taken into consideration in planning. Token gesture. Just something's by which has to be 'done'.
See second Thames crossing.
Which one would you prefer?
Err, the one that's not too far from my house but doesn't affect house prices.
Same crap with HS2 (which we had with HS1 which nobody complains about).
As I've said before, if IKB had to put up with this rubbish, the GWR would have finished at West Drayton, so not to knock down a load of houses owned by people WHO ARE NOW DEAD.

Great more wasted money.. yet at over 2 and 1/2 years ago I successfully petitioned for extra parking at Aycliffe. This was accepted.. still waiting.. Aycliffe the forgotten estate. Everything is being spent on the Whitfield new town. Aycliffe lost 2 play park, one football pitch and no community centre. One day DDC will work where Aycliffe is..

And that was a 'successful' petition!

They want our opinion so this is what I wrote on the DDC site about this ridiculous plan........
"This will only be of real use to the very few who might go to Whitfield and arrive in Dover by train, the majority of those outsiders will come by car. A complete waste of money."

And you were against it.
But it proves my point no one at DCC cares about Aycliffe.

So are all these people who have moved to Whitfield new town going to leave their cars and walk to Tescos for a quick flip to Dover or catch a High Speed train London ?
