Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce that Dover Carnival Association will be putting on their 130th Anniversary Illuminated Parade on the 2nd October 2011. The parade starts at 6pm from Russel Street carpark and will be travelling through Market Square, Biggin Street, Ladywell and Maison Dieu Road.
For your viewing delight I can promise you 12 visiting courts, the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Majorettes, Cheerleaders, the ATC marching band, painted cars and much more.
We are still open for entries of decorated private vehicles and fancy dress entrants for which there will be a prize for the best entries. Should you like to participate please contact me on
stephanie.precious@sky.com for an entry form.
I hope to see lots of people from Dover there to watch what we anticipate will be a suberb parade. So pass on the news guys cos we're doing this for the pleasure of our beautiful town.

Beautiful pic of the girls above, an illuminated parade sounds lovely. I will certainly get there to cheer all the courts on, best of luck with the floats etc Stephanie

What a beautiful photo Steph! "My" little Honor and of course her sister Lileth look gorgeous, as do all the girls. I'll certainly be looking in to this one. Give Honor a big cuddle for me and tell her I'm so proud of her and I do miss her too x
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

I am surprised at how few people seem to know that this is on. Dover is so great we get two parades in a year, something to celebrate.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Just heard that the Western Heights Preservation Society are hoping to take part. Still time for more.

Looks like the route has been changed from Stephanie's original post.

A chance for me to grab a pint in the Eagle as they turn the corner. After Blakes, The Albert and on to the Louis Armstrong. Hmm, could be a good day.

You could not make it up......it is daft enough to have two carnivals...and one in October....
It cannot be that it is 6-8pm

....It is totally dark around 7pm...
The young children will be at home ......and most people will think it is crackers.......Poor Show.....
Surely Sunday afternoon is more sensible.......or is sense another world?

While I can't see it being a huge event - or a huge success - I think Charlie might be missing the point. It's an ILLUMINATED parade, so presumably that's why it's arranged for the evening, when it's getting dark. Good luck to them, but don't hold your breath!

It is a shame it is not on the Saturday when younger ones can stay up late with no school the following day.

all about red tape, road closures and a few other things.
a couple of years back we had complaints from residents of river that their bus service was suspended for an hour or two on a saturday afternoon.
big deal, once a year.
i seem to remember our susan before she reached the heady heights of council chairperson intervening to smooth the way.

That was when they started at River Recreation Ground, it is now entirely in the town but as you say the dreaded red tape.

The reason the parade is on Sunday is because Stagecoach will not allow their buses to be disrupted on a Saturday (don't ask me why). And as Jim pointed out it is an illuminated parade so need to hold it at that time. I disagree that it won't be much of a success, I think it's going to be wonderful, a real tribute to all the hard work the committee have put in. But at the end of the day a carnival is only as successful as the amount of people who come out to see it so please spread the word and join us.
Confirmation of the other courts attending, we will have the pleasure of:
Herne Bay
Faversham
Sittingbourne
Teynham
Sandwich
Hornsey
Sheppy
Margate
Stanford & Corringham
Possibly:
Ramsgate
Basildon
Whitstable
We've also got the Hawkinge Flyers and as has already been mentioned the ATC and the Western Heights preservation society.
We invited the most delightful troop who dress up and have a clown car and a motor tricycle where the driver dresses up as a skeleton and they were very keen to attend.
Should we just have those I've just mentioned it should be a stonking parade.
