19 March 2013 09:02221015Barry, hospitals do not have bars as far as I know and we have not been discussing "food facilities" or canteens.
Most if not all hospital cafes are no longer subsidised as they are expected to make a profit which in turn helps finance the patients catering, the recent James Martin TV programmes about hospital food highlighted this very fact.
We have now gone completely off topic so I will shut up.

If the canteens in hospitals are not subsidised for staff any more then perhaps they should be. I also though am not suggesting subsidies in parliamentary bars is right though there is a good argument for it in the canteens/restaurants.
The main point was where you were saying that there should not be bars in Parliament, I am saying they have an important role and should be there. - 19 March 2013 09:37221025there are no canteens in hospitals, staff eat at the same outlets as visitors though i believe they get a small discount.

secondly even with the discount it would be cheaper for staff to go out to a local cafe.
