Sadly that pub has been struggling for years. I was at the re-launch and I have several pictures from said event somewhere in the archives, but said re-launch was quite a while ago now that even the pictures dont matter now....but they had such plans even offering food and so on. There was much optimism in the air. Im trying to remember now, but they even added historical memorabilia upstairs if Im remembering rightly. But nothing works for pubs any more.
Could also be a factor not having a batch of housing immediately around it.
Cant see any point in anyone else trying to resurrect it at this juncture.

ah yes that pub,my eldist boy played darts for that pub untill it closed.it was my son who told me it was closeing to undergo a transformation into a pub/restraunt type of thing.
I hadn't noticed it either, and I don't live too far away! Is it a recent closure?

I feel sorry for anybody who lives outside Dover reading this thread and has no idea which pub is being talked about or where it is.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

It was a high tea Howard, I'll be taking dinner around 2am.
Sir John Falstaff is in Ladywell, next door to the Fire Station, the Park Inn is further along Ladywell in Park Place, opposite the Police Station. The Eight Bells is in Cannon Street and Blakes is in Castle Street.

I organised the launch of the Sir John Falstaff, but not with the current owners.
The launch where it was to have a theme about respect for our war-dead was to be linked in with the Dover War Memorial Project.
It was a great night and about 150 or so people were there.
The owner of the pub then, was a Lady (?) called Sarah, who also owned the Britannia until it closed; she had great ideas (about the Falstaff), but no real intentions of carrying any of them out.
The most recent owners came from the Wheelrights on the Buckland Estate. They tried hard to make a go of it and the food they offered was pretty good and cheap, but the smokers/drinkers at the entrance, always put us off.
