 - It's not only Calais where there are problems with immigrants, I was in Patras in Greece last week and when I returned to my truck after collecting my documentation the truck was swarming with illegals trying to break in and one was trying to tie himself under the vehicle. Showing the same cowardice to my colleague and me as they show in defending the woman of their homeland. they ran off when confronted. - Guest 1792, Guest 1862, Judith Roberts and 3 more- like this

 - 'Our' Charlie moaning about the lack of removal of foreign criminals. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/1939595/just-two-in-453-foreign-lags-are-booted-out-of-the-uk-despite-government-promising-a-crackdown/-
Anyone remember who might have been Home Secretary and in charge of such matters over the past six years?

 - Brilliant! After over 20 years of Eurostar trains the government finally claims to be doing something about the Lille Loophole. http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/718995/British-border-crackdown-as-UK-stops-Eurostar-trains-to-nab-illegal-immigrants

 - I first heard about this well over 10 years ago and the Government had plans in place to sort it. All very well saying that Border Force officers will be deployed but that just means they will be taken off other work as they won't employ extra staff. - Jan Higgins and Paul M like this

 - Once again waiting in the ever increasing queues at Calais I counted 32 non UK trucks without security cords, but who were Border Force giving extra scrutiny to? You guessed it, UK vans and trucks.
Once again I reiterate, NO trucks should be allowed on the ferries unless they have TIR(security) cords and the trucks have a seal complete with documentation to show Border Force they were sealed at the point of loading. This would mean if immigrants are found on board then both the driver and the company loading the truck would be guilty of facilitating illegal immigration.
When Oh when will politicians speak to those at the 'sharp end'?

 - Calais migrant dies after being run over by British driver http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/10/calais-migrant-dies-after-being-run-over-by-british-driver/-
And HMG carries on with the 'solution' of building a longer wall by the road in the hope having traveled thousands of miles to get to Calais they might be put off by having to walk a little further to have access to vehicles.

 - Yet more spin to keep us happy, no mention of how many extra vessels, where they would patrol and the frequency. I strongly suspect a major presence for a short time then gradually phased out. http://www.kentlive.news/new-border-force-patrol-boats-will-tacke-people-traffickers-in-the-english-channel/story-29797989-detail/story.html

 - This article suggests that the migrants will be rehoused in detention centres not far from Calais. Surely many will return to start a new jungle. http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/721159/Calais-officials-refuse-Jungle-migrants-Michel-Lalande-Hauts-de-France-reception-centre

 - As Captain Haddock has previously observed, most migrants have trekked across Europe. Simply moving them away from Calais, even to t'other end of France, just means that they'll have to repeat part of their trek. To take the point further, most land borders are porous - as the French and others know well from two world wars. - howard mcsweeney1 likes this - (Not my real name.)

 - Plenty of new jobs coming to Kent!

(N.B. If you do fancy fostering, Private (Independent) Fostering Agencies generally pay a basic weekly fostering allowance and fee of £400 per week, for all ages of foster children. The payment is generally the same for short and long term placements. This is over TWICE the KCC allowance)
