Those houses are beautiful but really complicated internally. Personally, with a biggish family and a growing business I would love to take on one of the properties, but they will need a lot of work done to get them to a habitable state. But so worth it! And to attract a few well-heeled people to Dover would be fab. The shops are as we all know disappointing but perhaps, with the right entrepreneurial spirits attracted and some proper, creative, support from local reps, we can dream.....?

19:2588615Even M&S in Dover is a mess, however. Given the closure of their Folkestone store sometime ago, you would have thought they would invest in the Dover store. Instead they seem hell bent on filling the aisles with so much stock that you simply cannot walk around the place. I have some experience having worked at the head office of a well known national retailer, and the old adage is "retail is detail". Regretably, I think the Dover M&S is very poor as a retail experience. Again, if only someone could persuade M&S to invest in a new, larger store in the St James' area, they would attract more customers from Dover, Folkestone, and the Continent.

19:2888616I can only agree. And the detail is always crucial in services whether or not they are retail or personal. Some local services may need a reminder..........

19:3488618I think this is what Barry was reminiscing about, interesting to compare it with Paul's picture on the current front page. No date on it unfortunately.

20:1988623M&S are much too cramped for easy shopping, they could always move up to the old Sainsbury building I would imagine the floor area is larger but maybe not central enough for them.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

20:2488624I know it's been said before - by me many times, but I believe M & S would benefit by having separate stores for clothes and food. Each would be less cramped than they are now and each would benefit by having greater diversity of stock.

Over 4 years on from the start of the thread and I wondered earlier what state the interior is in.
Incidentally looks like Nostradamus posted no. 42.

Prime residential properties, in any other town they would be snapped up.
Dover must have the only marina in the country without apartments around it. I assume DHB aren't interested?

I thought they owned it? I know that Churchills paid rent to the DHB. if they do maybe they just leasing it and want someone else to develop it?
