40,000 British women have PIP industrial silicone implants,95% by private medicine clinics.
PIP implants cost £ 50 each compared to other qualities £ 300 each.
Clinics took advantage of these to maximise their profits.
90% of implants were for cosmetics reasons.French government have agreed to pay for removal of implants for cancer patients.
British advice is to leave the implants unless problems occur
I don't have a great deal of sympathy with those who had the procedure for cosmetic reasons, frankly. I know that is awfully non-feminist of me, but I can't help but think how many kids sight could be restored for the amount of money spent on unnecessary cosmetic surgery. I should be clear that I don't mean the surgery performed as corrective or after other, required, surgery.

i am the same, cosmetic surgery should be for those disfigured not just for vanity purposes.
what a boring world it would be if we all looked perfect.

I have to agree about cosmetic surgery, yes on the NHS it should be only for those who are disfigured and not for pure vanity. Yes, Howard - I can agree with that last comment too...
Reg, you really have to try to dig at private companies and the word profit at every chance you get. These implants were passed off as medical grade by a crook there is no deliberate use of sub-standard implants by the clinics.
But there was a deliberate decision to purchase an implant that cost 85% less than its competitors , that at least should have rung a few alarm bells leading to further investigation by the purchaser as you said in a previous post Barry theres no such thing as a free lunch

True Sarah - but we have to remember that there was fraudulent activity by the manufacturer and they were sold under false pretences. We all try to find the best deals when purchasing.
Define "best"......
Thats true Barry , but given the huge price difference I would have expected that further questions would have been asked ( not that I know that they weren't ) as the developmental and safety costs on these products are vast . I cant quite see how the purchasers couldnt have known that just somehow the figures where too good to be true .

Time for the old saying.............. when a bargain seems to be too good to be true it usually is.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

there is definitley a touch of "del boy" in the purchasing here, the price differential is too vast.

only for cancer sufferers i believe brian.
Even if they are removed on the NHS it is unlikely that any reconstructive surgery or further implant would be funded by the NHS so the women concerned may still face further costs .

Surgeons and Commons committee investigating state all PIP implants should be removed.
Question......Do the Private clinics get more work or do the NHS clear up their mess ?.

The vast majority of breast implants were undertaken by the private sector, why the hell should the NHS clear up the mess.
I think that is women can afford paying for bigger boobs for confidence reasons etc then they should pay to have them taken out no sympathy sadly .
