I’m hearing two groups of migrants have arrived by boat in Folkestone and Kingsdown. Conditions were very calm - if cold - overnight.

If you look at the AIS for the past 24 hours. They came IN SPITE of French warship patrolling French coast from South of Boulogne to Calais close to shore AND patrol by Border Force PLUS HMS Mersey this side of Channel.

We need a couple of helicopters making repeated passes and directing surface vessels to suspect craft. Actually this would be best done by the French otherwise they can’t be dumped back where they came from.

actuly they to be taken strait back from whence they started from, and not cause great expence to the british tax payer.

Have to hand it to them, crossing in this freezing weather when the rest of us are hiding under a duvet.

Home Office asylum statistics show that there were, on average, 2,550 asylum applications by Iranian nationals each year in the period 2008-2017. Of these, an average of 925 - or 37% - were rejected, including after appeal, each year.
On average, there were only 81 enforced removals of Iranian nationals with no right to be in the UK each year, while there were also an average of 101 voluntary departures, so 182 in total.
However the removal/departure figure for the most recent five years is even lower, averaging at just over 100 per year.
With a 95% chance of staying on in the UK over the past five years it is hardly a surprise that Iranian nationals are willing to take a chance crossing the Channel to enter the UK clandestinely.

As regards post #29, see post #19. It's deja vu all over again.

I was in the Royal Navy doing anti immigrant patrols in Hong Kong.
It all sounds easy sitting behind a keyboard. But when you are out there at sea it can be very difficult to spot these sizes of boats using RADAR and a MK1 eyeball at night. You are also trying to sort out what is legal traffic and dodging ships..
I used to spend up to 8 hours at time in a small boat looking for things whilst directed by my patrol ship.

For God's sake, 'our' Charlie is now calling for aerial surveillance!
Doesn't he realise that the ONLY powers the French have to stop them is a law which makes it illegal to go more than 200 metres offshore in an unseaworthy craft! (NO, I'm not joking).
It's the one they use to stop people trying to cross the Channel for charity in wacky things like bathtubs!

Wonderful logic from these "patriots", they will hand over any wet backs to the authorities on arrival which is exactly what the migrants want.
