He has gone right down in my estimation over the last couple of days maybe he should have continued his holiday? First he gives in to the baying mob and deploys two more cutters which will give the green light to prospective migrants who will think their safety is more assured then he talks as if the first safe country they arrived in was France.

I hold a differing view to Howard by hoping these boats act as a deterrent and help keep these illegals in France.
I am irritated with those who fail to understand that these people have travelled miles through safe countries where they could have claimed asylum, plus can afford to give thousands to the smuggling organisers.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

i think theres a lot more landing than those in power want us to know about,i often wonder if they actually make the whole trip or are they being dropped off halfway by bigger boats.

Should all die out soon as Serbia has stopped the visa free deal with Iran after pressure from the EU.

Meanwhile in Ireland asylum claims reach a ten year high with Georgia (of all places) top nationality for applicants!

Has anyone else noticed the pattern emerging here? The choice of landing sites have been, Dover, Folkestone, Sandgate, Hythe and now Dungeness all are on the 102 bus route which runs every 20 minutes to their favoured destination. They know if they washed up in Aycliffe they could wait hours then two come along together.

Home Office asylum statistics show that there were, on average, 2,550 asylum applications by Iranian nationals each year in the period 2008-2017. Of these, an average of 925 - or 37% - were rejected, including after appeal, each year.
On average, there were only 81 enforced removals of Iranian nationals with no right to be in the UK each year, while there were also an average of 101 voluntary departures, so 182 in total.
However the removal/departure figure for the most recent five years is even lower, averaging at just over 100 per year.
With a 95% chance of staying on in the UK over the past five years it is hardly a surprise that Iranian nationals are willing to take a chance crossing the Channel to enter the UK clandestinely.
