17:2388589Thank you all so much. Your kindness means more than you might think - it is appreciated, genuinely and gratefully. It is a real comfort that she had such good and sensitive care at the end, and I am grateful to the lovely nurses who provided it. They are, each of them, stars and fabulous human beings who managed, with their excellent nursing skills and sensitive manners to restore a bit of faith in this battle-weary individual. And they will end up, with a light disguise, in the last part of my blog which will surface soon. She would have smiled to know that I may start a blog about the process of repatriation - I have started that process today in order to enable her wish to be buried in the family plot in Ireland. My assertive attitude and battleaxe demeanour caused her some amusement and diversions over the years.........and truth be told it will also distract me at this unbelievably difficult time. But we will all have had to face these things, and your empathy and kindness are so very welcome. Thank you.

17:3688590Sincere condolences Bern, even though not a surprise it is still no less of a shock for everyone. Keep your pecker up and I am sure your feistiness (is that a word?) will carry you and family through the days ahead.
Yours,
PG.

19:5888621So sorry Bern; Jean and I send our sincere condolences.
Good to hear that there was much kindness to her at the end.
I hope that what you have posted gets sent to, or read by, the Health Minister to try and introduce real "Care" in all our hospitals.
As GaryC has said above, you must look after yourself at this time too.
Kindest Regards Bern.

09:3088648Our condolences to you Bern. No matter how prepared you think you are it is still a shock and a sad loss but you know that she would have been rightly proud of the courage you have shown throughout. Glad to hear that she got the care she deserved in the end and good luck with the repatriation.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

20:2588725Thank you all again, so much. And good point, Paul - it is too easy to drown in the grief, but celebrating the good stuff is just as important. Thanks for the prompt - I needed it!
