I won't pretend to understand some of the childish sniping that is going on, but the point is that the benefit system is flawed, but not as flawed as the politicians demonising the unemployed and disabled, and the great unwashed sucking it all up like it is truth and wisdom. what they should think about is all the MPs living high on the hog, all parties please note, no partisan interest here, ripping the p*ss out of the rest of us, some of whom sit back and worship these useless idiots who are corrupt liars, and will never have to work a day in their lives. If you're a mad old bat, you'll even get a state funeral.(only not soon enough)

Welcome Barrie.
Isn't it nice that we are getting so many new faces posting recently bringing a bit of fresh blood into the varying battles or should I say discussions we have on here.

Barrie declares no partisan interest but his last line suggests otherwise.
In essence part of his post is correct, its tribalism that is ruining the country, the blue and red rosettes are to blame.

Welcome Barrie.
As you have discovered, if you have no political affiliation to admit to, one (or other) shall be assigned to you, licketyspit.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

Thanks for the welcomes...David Little, after what Thatcher did to the Kent Coal Mines, and to the ferries, anyone with any interest in Dover should despise the memory of the mad old bat. This however does not make me some kind of a socialist, so just to even things up I'll throw Peter Mandelson into the ring (shame there are no lions). I have no political affiliations at all, because I can think for myself, and if Milliband was top Tory, all you blues would love him instead of Cameron, and vice versa. For crying out loud, people even vote for the chief buffoon Boris Johnson, who I'm sure comes from a different planet to me. If you want any more names, just check back on the expenses scandal, shows what our politicians ( of all parties) think of us really. I can't believe that you could read tribalism into Thatcher hatred. This is the whole point, if I'm not a red then I must be a blue, or does that make me a LibDem ? I hate nearly all politicians equally, and those very few that are geniune, I will stand up for whatever political party they represent because its the people that count, not the colour of the rosette. Trying to frighten us with comments about 1930s Germany is a bit sad. The BNP were shot down in flames by the establishment as soon as they started to become a threat. The BBC (mouth of the party in power) certainly saw to that.

Good post Barrie, most of it echoes how I feel.
However when you refer to "you blues" I'm not sure if you mean me, I never have and never would vote for Cameron

No, I don't mean any one personally. This was a generalisation meaning 'all you blues out there reading this post'. As well as having no political affiliation of my own, I don't care about anyone else's, and certainly wouldn't try to use it as an insult to anyone.

Benefits of any kind should not be paid to those that do not live in this country regardless of where those people originated from, including the Winter fuel allowance to those living abroad.

I knew that Barrie! Welcome to the forum; although a newbie too I can safely say that you will be impressed by other contributors postings who have sometimes pasted links to pages of information that express opinions from some very eminent people.
The mini Parliament section you will find extremely entertaining with some views, I suspect, made with tongue in cheek and others with foot in mouth.
I've also detected a smidgen of political views creeping in.
As they say in Mac Donald's ........enjoy!

Thanks Bob. Keith, I was thinking more along the lines of Herr Hitler coming to power, rather than the similar 'problems' that we have these days. The inverted commas are there because some of these issues are propaganda. demonising the unemployed, the disabled or immigrants, none of whom are really to blame for the situation we're in. I have read various articles that show how unemployed people won't go to work because their benefits are so high its just not worth it. These claims are patently nonsensical, the only small amount of truth being that some people were in receipt of very high housing benefit, but its the landlords who are raking that in, not the benefit recipient. If in doubt, blame the previous government for the high immigration figures, not just the current shower, but the shower that preceded them too. So if we can't really blame the public, who is left to take the rap ? The half wits in 'power' of course. They are the ones who got us in this mess, so they should be the ones to get us out of it, without all the histrionics of the 'welfare bill' , because I have a feeling they can soon find a few quid somewhere to fund another war.

Welcome BARRIE nice to see the forum get some fresh imput.
Of course within the forum there will be differing views, and you will find a number of posters will /do support a number of points you made.
Of course you are correct;
1; Politicians of all parties are held in very low respect at this time and it's up to them to change that
2; your correct had the mouse won the vote, money would have been found to create the military action he wanted
3; The welfare system needs reform and theres something wrong when claimants say there better off on the dole
and can't afford to go to work.
4; the MP;s expenses scandal did little to help engage with the public
5; prime ministers question time never has done much to get people interested in politics.
