The idea that you can put on an event open to the public and not go through the normal planning process just because you only advertise it on Facebook and don't expect many to turn up is completely wrong - and anyone organising such an event without public liability insurance is being foolish.

Surely it is time to give this subject a rest, petty bickering on here does not show anyone in a good light.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Ray Newsam, as I've frequently said it was not an event, it was not organised for huge crowds which was why it was only on FB. The question of public liability was thoroughly gone into, no one was invited it was for a few friends to honour the fallen, people on FB were only informed out of correctness in case any of their relatives were being remembered. The correct channels were gone thru DTC even sent emails wishing us well, please do not make these statements unless you know the facts.
Brian the reason it was not openly advertised was as I've said it was not a public event.
Jan Higgins I,m not into petty bickering I,m just replying to criticism but I won't be posting any more on the subject.

Lyn Mac wrote:Brian I think you missed the point Augusta,s event was not meant to be for hundreds of people the reason for that is because large "do,s" need public liability insurance..
I wasn't criticising whoever organised the event/non-event, I posted the link in case others misread your post and thought they could organise an event without insurance just because it was small numbers, and I posted the link to make sure they knew how to go about it (as you've now said was done in this case).

How ashamed I feel at the above posts, the Thread was to commemorate those lost at The Battle of The Somme, exactly 100 years ago on 1st July. However, when attending the Service at the Memorial Service today 3rd July organised by the RBL I noticed the Union flag being flown the wrong way up, thankfully after this was pointed out, an hour later the Union flag was adjusted to it's rightful & honourable position.. Thank you.

Your words seem to have fallen on stony ground Jan, no surprise there - playground names make people feel braver.

It's not the first time this has come up, time for admin to sort it out once and for all?

Oh for heavens sake thought this was a forum for all people from all walks of life ,,If admin are going to sort out real names from "false " ones lets start with some that have been on here for a few yrs ,Why have certain people disrespected this thread by moaning over names ,thought it was about the Somme .Today i was at the memorial standing near to Mr Eyden was any of you there ? early this afternoon by chance i met Mrs Pearson and her husband (who i hope my Martin looks as hot as him when hes that age ) but i digress .She came across as a lovely Woman who wants good things for Dover so instead of crying moaning and whining about her why dont you join forces and put your heads together and work for the Town and people if you refuse then i suggest the next thing is to shut up because if you wont work or support each other then you are hardly in the position to complain and that is more aimed at you Mr Macsweeney then anyone else on here,Names hardly matter its politeness that counts .That s my rant over
