I agree Suzie Sue it was well attended with young and old present, the poem was lovely & well read & of course the Ghurka,s who are always welcome. Some Vets were present & all was videoed by Alan. All in all a lovely service & extremely well organised. The singing of the National Anthem at the end was particularly poignant.

I saw about the same amount Brian. Very, very moving especially when Abide With Me was played by that lone guardsman with the image of the field of flowers behind him and with the singer walking through all those graves.

The Somme Rembrance Service at the Memorial this morning was very poignant as the Whistle blew at the exact time & date 100 years ago. Fabulous news that the Dover RBL will be carrying out the honour at a later date & even more pleased that their numbers will increase Courtesy of The Staffordshire Brigade (my maternal side of my family

The service this morning was not advertised as such but was well advertised on FB, anyone was entitled to be present as the Memorial is a public place, no one in particular was invited - it was open to all. The town council were informed in plenty of time & knew the exact time etc that the service began. It certainly was not a secret & no one needed to be "in the know" Sue Nicholas as I said it was open to all, if DTC or the town clerk kept it to themselves then take it up with them. I will just add that services of Rememberence have been held all over the Country today shame on DTC for not organising one for Dover. The service to be held on Sunday has been organised by the RBL. We wish them well.

It started at 07 20 Brian, a whistle was blown at 07 28 the exact time the first wave of soldiers went over the top, 2 mins silence was observed & a Ghurka played the last post. Poems were read prayers were said. The National Anthem was sung. It was very moving, there are plenty of photos on FB

It wasn't put on here but was on D4D, D4 disgruntled & obviously on the news feed. Other people saw it as it was estimated there were about 40 members of the public there apart from those that participated.

Did anyone think to notify the local press as many people find Facebook groups too crass and/or poisonous?
