That's not fair on the children.
They won't get an education, won't speak proper English, won't get a job.

Alex, modern day travellers are the spiritual descendants of the Irish tinkers of the 19th century. It's a lifestyle choice which we should respect; but at the same time they should respect our rules and pay for their parking.
And why would they not speak proper English? Their parents do.

That's the myth that many perpetuate Peter. The reality is that many lead a life of crime and refuse to contribute to our society in a meaningful manner, yet will claim "human rights" infringements if pursued legally.
They're still there by the way, 5 days and counting now. DDC representatives on this forum are conspicuous by their absence I see - maybe Mr Watkins would like to remove himself from his ivory tower and take a trip into the district he is elected to represent? Then again, maybe DDC have fallen for the
"tarmac your drive guv'nor"...
And don't worry about them reading this Watty, I doubt any of them can...

Paul
watty comes on here when he gets time, sometimes doesn't log on for 2 or 3 weeks, i think we are all aware of work going on in the background on several projects - doubt if reading the forum would take precedence.

Indeed Brian - surprised at the number of uses a book can be put to when the holder is incapable of reading and comprehending it.
We've dealt with these 'people' before when we were up at Whitfield - when they eventually were moved on we were left with an amount of waste and excreta that had to be seen to be believed, other businesses had to deal with the theft of their property and the constant threats to destroy property and disrupt business.
Finally Brian - a computer can 'read' War & Peace aloud to you, yet it is unable to comprehend the interaction between characters, add inflection to emphasise drama, dismay or tragedy or fully appreciate the impact of the Napoleonic era on Tsarist society and what developed as a result.
But I guess that is lost on a lot of people too...

I remember when we had some travellers at Tilmanstone who were highly educated and for the short time they used the pub very pleasant, remember there are educated, illiterate, good and bad in all walks of life.

Thankfully no, I remember a customer of ours had problems with a very small group who decided to set up residence virtually adjacent their rural property. I acknowledge we were lucky with the ones who used the pub possibly because they were in the area to try and find work on the fields.

Indeed I have Peter - from a very sweet (and knowledgeable) Romany lady who had given up the road and settled in a local village during the early eighties, to the occupants of the Golgotha land at Shepherdswell in the mid eighties, to the mindless idiots up at Whitfield in 2000/1. The latter two examples were a world away from the former, to whom I sat and listened for hours.
That is probably far more than many people on here - not that I have to justify my comments

Well this is interesting, at 5.33 Cllr Walkden informs the hierarchy and, as if by magic, they've gone.
Is this pure coincidence?
In the Express last week a Mr Shirley, in the letters page, claimed that DDC is not fit for purpose. I'd suggest Mr Shirley thinks again.
Its ruined my day, I have a copy of War and Peace with me and was looking forward to a cultural experience with our visitors, examining the impact that Russian literature has had, not just Tolstoy but Dostoevsky and others.

As I mentioned earlier, I had written to various people at DDC, including PaulW and this morning I had several replies from various officers (and Nigel) saying that DDC had been working with the Police, almost as soon as they had arrived.
They had to go down the legal route of course, which always delays things - and these people know the legalities of what the Police and Local Authorities have to do, but after claiming a hundred and one different serious health issues, they were moved on this morning at 07.30.
I know a Mr. Shirley and if it is the same person, he has put to me a number of times that DDC is not for for purpose. I have always told him that is definitely not the case and that (most of) the people who think that, do so out of lack of knowledge as to what the Council does, or is responsible for.
I agree that it could be argued that DDC could publicise more what they do, but that's another argument.
