Charlie was at the Deal memorial so I didn't expect to see him but I was surprised that there was no DDC representative. I know that the chairman was at the Sandwich memorial but surely PaulW or Nadeem could have laid a wreath on behalf of DDC?

Ah Yes indeed it is Terry... it is the very man himself. As you can see he has his beret on and his glasses, as he was trying to come to terms with the dials and digits on his new Pentax camera, while looking at the wreaths.

What a beautiful day it was yesterday, an exceptional service with a huge turnout and lovely to see so many friends there. Must say the guys all looked so well turned out in their uniforms and medals. Reverend David Ridley delivered a super service as usual, so pleased for him that the sun shone brightly this year so he remained dry for once.
Some lovely photos on the front page, I especially like the one taken by Karol Steele of the shadowed cross amongst the beautiful poppy wreaths.

Well there you go, I know exactly what you mean Paul. We went for lunch at the Ramada after and the charming Penny looked at me in astonishment and said "Why are you wearing a suit?"

re; posts 30 and 31.
someone i know "collored" nigel in the "eight bells" after the service and asked him about the medals.
they are his dad's and he is entitled to wear them on the opposite side to where the actual medal winners wear them.

Ah yes indeed I remember about Nigel's medals from previously. He is very proud of his Dad's history and its great to keep his memory alive.
We took many more pictures than we could show on the frontpage. But here is an interesting one. For three pictures only, in the middle of the ceremony, a mix of tricolour light came on each shot, which was not visible while taking the picture. In all my long years of taking pictures I havent come across a similar set of odd colours added to the picture unknown to me.
The picture shows three former Mayors laying wreaths, Cllr Jan Tranter, Cllr Gordon Cowan, Cllr Sue Jones.

Just to add a final one from me...
this chap, and I hope its alright to show it, but this chap felt the heat at one point and had to sit down. As mentioned earlier many were wearing heavy overcoats but the sun became quite warm. It might be an idea in future days to have some more chairs available for the elderly ones just in case. He struggled a bit to get onto the step as shown and then struggled later to get up. People did rush to help him though when needed.

Nice array of pictures here and on the Front Page, also good to hear that the veteran pictured above who felt unwell was looked after, I hear he was well enough to place his wreath upon the memorial to the fallen.
