BRIAN;
I have no idea on what info the differing anti terrorists groups had, but you see from some other incidents that these people don't always come to light, many will lead quite ordinary lives, whilst plotting to bomb areas.
A good example of this was the kings cross disaster where one of the suicide bombers was a teacher in a school in leeds, well respected and showing no signs of what he was about to do.
Obvioiusly we are not aware of the full facts of what are own intelligence organisations had on the issue within this thread, or if it could have been avoided.
some of these people lead very ordinary lives whilst planning such extreme tragic events, so very difficult to detect

kieth,the facts speak for themselfs,a good intel system is needed to start with.our intel services are suposed to be the best,the usa that theres is better than ours.pearl harbour was americas downfall in the last war,in which they may have learnd from,but by the looks of it every thing has gone lax on it.hence 9/11/london bombings.

it may well be that our intelligence, well in fact all intelligence is not that bad, but terrorists have found ways round it.

IM with you on this on Kieth. I think had they known about the attacks they would have done their best to prevent them. The problem was they had no comprehension that those planes were heading towards specific targets, hence sending their jets out to sea. They have said themselves there were cutbacks in fighter jets at the time so could not deploy many. Are you suggesting that they 'knew' about the attacks Brian or that their intelligence should have been better? Hindsight is a great thing but remember these terrorist are not people with big ideas living in caves with no access to intelligence and equipment themselves.

i think that the western world's intelligence services are as on top of the problem as they have ever been.
most of the recent attacks have come either in africa or asia.
no doubt there were many attacks planned for the tenth anniversary of 9/11, none came to fruition, also the trend in the mslim world at the moment is for movement to liberal democracies doubt it will happen but there are not as many recruits to terrorist organisations according to intelligence reports.
