When I was at sea we were tied up alongside an abattoir in Brisbane, Australia loading frozen meat and we were given a grand tour of the place. We saw all the different methods of killing the animals ( no horses bye the way) cattle, lambs and pigs. We saw the lot, from the killing, to the corn beef going in the tin. I vowed never to eat meat again, but I did

I remember a horse meat shop in our town just after the war.
I would hazard a guess that, after the meat fiasco is sorted out, there will be other 'surprises' found, in processed foods and ready meals. How many people check ALL the lists of ingredients anyway? (I have to because of intolerances to some ingredients)

I can remember there used to be the 'continental butcher' where I grew up in London.
Maybe if the food industry were to promote horsemeat products openly they would find they have a strong market but then their profits might go down without the present fiddles that are coming to light.

If Horsemeat becomes acceptable to the public then the price will rise accordingly, what would come next?

Maybe Horsemeat will replace Tobacco as the thing to bring back from a day trip?

Hi Jan, according to the BBC a moment ago Horse meat is 1/5th of the price of Beef.
Anyway, highly processed meat, ready meals and fast food all come in more expensive for a family than making a proper dinner from scratch. For instance; fed my normal crowd plus my visiting daughter, son-in-law and grandson (9 of us altogether) last night for £19.80, all home prepared. Rice, Broccoli, mushrooms, Pork (home minced and blended with pepper, garlic and apple) and apple sausages (skins and meat both from Dover butcher) with sweet pancakes and fresh squeezed Lemon for dessert. I did a quick search around for something similar ready made at the cheapest end of the scale and couldn't feed 9 for less than £28.5.
